Hi.
I am new to the Subaru sence.
What oil do i use in the gearbox of a 1999 outback.
its a manual. I think the centre diff is binding up. so want to change the oil.

Castrol Multitrax is recommended by Subaru.
I'm currently running Redline shockproof in mine and its a better oil but hefty price tag.

If the centre diff is binding an oil change wont help as it's caused by a blown viscous coupling.
I believe it's about $1,500 for a new centre diff, not sure if you can just replace the coupling, mine was done by the dealer pre-purchase.
