WTB: MY sedan/coupe wiper switch cover

Post by dfoyl » Tue Jul 12, 2016 9:09 pm

I need a replacement MY sedan or coupe (NOT wagon) rotary wiper switch - just the black plastic part, not the mechanical switch.

Unfortunately I found the electrician who wired up the EJ broke one of the two internal prongs and didn't mention it. When I pulled it down this evening to locate a rattle and hook up the CEL I found the damage that had been done. Surprised the entire piece hadn't fallen off...

A wagon is not suitable as it has an additional sub-switch for the rear wiper.

Intermittent. I forgot to mention the base model DL's (at least in sedans) did come without intermittent. Otherwise I could just use a Brumby one :)

Should show us the broken bit, as you may be able to rescue it with a bit of plastic welding ... ;)

Cheers, Bantum ...

Here is a comparison between sedan/coupe and wagon (Brumby is a simplified version of the sedan/coupe without the intermittent, and base model MY sedan is the same from memory - though I recall an early MY (1980 DL sedan) which only had on/off from memory) :

Here is the broken switch (only one piece of the two or more prongs are left) :

And here is a MY wagon showing the 2-piece design and attachment mechanism :

I could cut out the middle section from the wagon and hot glue it in place as a work-around, but I am hoping to just get the right part.

Ahh, I didn't realise there was two different types of intermittent. I have a spare wagon one I believe, not complete though. Next time I'm in the shed I'll grab a photo.

Wow, how to you stuff that up? Nice of him to tell you!

Anyone able to 3D print a new one yet?

Cheers

Probably wasn't removed directly away from the mount, ie. pulled towards body instead of at a 30 degree angle. And then when re-fitting it would have fallen apart as it was re "attached" :(

Fixer ...

Post by Bantum » Fri Jul 15, 2016 3:22 am

Yeah - you could fix that with bit of gluing / welding scrap plastic to remake it. It looks like someone forced turned it too much ... :(

Might be while before I get round to doing other 3D scans as I haven't finished the scanner yet - but it could be a possible candidate for later. If you can wait that long that is ... :p

Good luck trying to find another ... :)

Cheers, Bantum ...

I picked one up a couple of weeks ago but it's destined to go into my Brumby. I have a wagon switch in there right now, but I want to get rid of the redundant rear wiper switch.
I'll keep an eye out for another one. Plan on checking in on Subareck again to see how their yard clean up operation is going. I might be able to get out the back to have a dig, depending on whether there is any old stuff left, and if there is vehicle removal going on at the time.
