ea82 gearbox
hi im after infomation on how to change...
gear ratios*
.final drive ratio
and where to get gears from
etc...liberty*
what subaru gearbox gears fit ea82 boxes
ea82 gearbox ratio change info
If you want to keep part time 4wd you have the option of 3.7 and 3.9 to 1 ratio front diff. The pinion gear is part of the output gear set. You can only use ea82 gearbox parts. If you want AWD then that's another, very long, story.

PT4wd you can only swap 5th ratios between these boxes, not a huge selection out there for this though, probably two at most, one for the 3.7 diff ratio box and another for the earlier 3.9 diff ratio box.
However you can build an EJ AWD gearbox into a set of EA cases with some work. You will need a custom crossmember piece, custom tail shaft, probably modified gear linkages and run a set of MPFI ea82 front drive shafts if you don't swap the diff output stubs while you e got the box split
Gearboxes are fun

Hey mate, just saw you message on that member's page thing.
If you've got an ea single range box get an EJ single range box. Early wrx would be the go if you're running an ea82t as the ratios would be similar to the old ea82t box's ratios but the diff ratio would be different for the change in tyre size.
Once you know what you need it's pretty much all Lego. It's working out what you need that's half the trick, the other half is finding the parts.
I'll have a rummage around the shed next time I'm down at m&d's as I'm sure I've got a set of series 1 RX doors with the checkered door cards. I'll let you know what I find if you're interested.
Cheers
