Got a hot tip on some sambos in a local river yesterday so I took Baronvonchickenpants on a Mud Crab Bait chasing session.
After a few dropped fish Jordan finally landed this fish.
2.5kg, not a bad fish!
I landed the first fish though, using a 1-2kg 7'2" custom on 4lb braid - not a bad first fish for that rod! 2.5kg fish on 1.8kg line - took some work to get it to the boat too!
Great morning out and should get some good muddies in a few weeks time.

Nice fish, would have been tough work on such light gear. I get the jitters when a flatty half that size starts shaking it's head on similar class line.
well done

Crab bait! cracks me up how you guys are so fussy with what you eat.
Good fish like that would have been cleaned, skinned, minced and fried up into delicious fish cakes by now if it was in my fridge!
book me in for some crabbing sometime soon Ben.

Jordan's gonna eat his - but remember last Thursdays fishing, I have snapper in the freezer :P
And besides, crabs are soo much tastier and you have to use something for bait :P

I do anyway.... The local paper guys think it's ok to call them every expletive they are allowed to print in their quest to have NSW Fisheries reinstate commercial decimation of them...

they are way to good to be commercially fished. Absolute waste to net them the way they do!

It was a really nice fish to get back into fishing with, haven't done it in years, he put up a bit of a fight but didn't make it too hard.
Was a great morning out, had a ball, thanks Ben.
Jordan.

Yeah yeah good on ya!
Gonna go chasing blackfish on thursday, will be pulling on a crusty old terry hat and sitting low in the boat grunting at others motoring past....
But only after hooning around and chasing salmon at first light :P
Dane, this was at the river mouth where I took you and Andrew January this year.

I just got back from three days fishing at hervey bay ... didn't catch anything huge ( something massive took my live bait, but stripped the hooks with it ). We caught well over 100 fish over the three days, half of them were bloody pike though, about 30 squire ( none legal, but averaged 30cm ), 15-20 Happy Moments, and a bunch of other random stuff. Only decent fish we kept and ate were a Grass Sweetlip, Tusk fish, and a Coral Trout.
I was fishing with 6lb line, so the squire and pike were still fun, although the pike were costing me a SP every catch or two by eating the tails.
The pike would bite absolutely anything, soft plastics ( even 2/3 eaten ones ), hard body, slugs, squid, pilchards ...

i wont put my picture up because im not attractive without a shirt on and my hat is rather embarrassing...but the tuna i caught was nice
caught mine up at exmouth on 6lb braid on a light rod and egg beater about 30 nautical miles north of exmouth toward the murion islands...caught lots and lots of beauties up there including all sorts of emporor and snappers and even a cobia...

cant wait to get back up there in the boat
