Sold a Brumby Bought a Boat

Post by revmax » Wed Sep 19, 2012 6:10 am

Almost sacrificial but hey sometimes ya just got a do it.
Ironic cause the bloke who bought the Brumby wanted something to launch his 16ft fiberglass ocean going 1/2 cab boat and i used the cash to buy a boat. Kinda makes me sad cause that brumby will be rusted to bits in a couple of years for sure being exposed to a rear dunking every weekend.

Looks like the old wagon will do some boat launching now.
Got a 12ft "V" tinney 15hp Mariner on a 1/2 stuffed trailer.
OPPS no boat licence, Doing a course this evening.
My first tinney, I'm so excited. First boat was a 10ft fiberglass with 5hp clapped out old motor so I didn't realy clasify it as a boat and it only cost $200.

Anything I should know off the top of ya heads.

no better way to learn boat skills than a 12ft tinny. just get out there and enjoy it. you will hit bottom, break stuff, and get away with it much cheaper than learning in a big boat ;)

I miss my tinny..

Thanks Vince.
Just passed the theory now just have to get some experience with some experenced masters to fil in the log book.

My Trailer is in a real bad way and I an unsure what to do ATM.
1 build another trailer Cost $3-4 hunderd
2 Buy a second hand trailer $4-5 hundred
3 buy another boat, motor, trailer just for the trailer and flog off the rest. Initial outlay is $1K + but could break even and end up with the trailer for $0

Ben, a previous member (used to live in your street, had a white Outback) built a trailer using the torsion bar suspension from a FWD MY sedan.

Thanks Gannon, I do remember that H6 OB.
I had remembered your post in my trailer thread and had the thought in the back of my mind.
The idea is great, the torsion bar set up is very heavy in comparison to a std trailer axle and the bearings could be hard to get and difficult to replace, although I have plenty of spare rims and tyres.
