this might only help with the people who have brumbys, but i found out the other day that driving with the tailgate down/not there, will use more fuel than with it up (if you havent got a cover)

reason being that with it down, it allows the air stream to drop down behind the window and flow over the back, this creates more down force, where as if it were up, it creates a bubble of vacuum in the tray and the air travels over the top, less drag and less down force.

apparently thats what those fins on the roof of all the lancer evo's do, create turbulence and form a bubble of vacuum behind the window to direct air better.

I saw those little fin things on ebay. "Apparently" gives you better fuel economy and a slight increase in power.

I think they did that test on mythbusters too..

they found that if you got a little net thing and took the tail gate right off they got better fuel economy than anything else.

True. Also why they sometimes drop the tailgate (or not have one) for drag racing.

Mythbusters did a segment on this i think (if my memory is correct) that if you remove the tailgate and put a web replacement on instead, gets better fuel ecomomy.
