On/Off hub?

Post by midnight » Thu Apr 26, 2007 2:59 pm

Is it possible to get like a hub thing that can go onto the back of the flywheel that you can turn on and off, like the a/c compressor hub?

Thanks
midnight.

You wouldn't get one that would hold the entire torque of your engine.

Probably.

Suba, I cant use a clutch, as the motor will be on the other side of the shed wall.

I need something that will turn on and off and stop a pulley spinning.

There will be a Air Pressure regulator that will turn the clutch on and off to stop the air compressor going.

D'yall understand what Im getting at?

Basically, I want a F**king huge air compressor big enough to supply enough air to a shed without running out much, as I will be using a lot of air tools, and it just totally sucks waiting for the compressor to re fill.

There are electric compressors on the market that do that. Ours if flipping HUGE. Big enough to support our 6 blokes and the car audio shop next door.

Rather than try to make an electric clutch to handle that much power, why not make an electric actuator for the suby clutch?
All you have to do is pull a cable and release it?

If you really want to use an EA81 for this why not just use an air con compressor like dave is planning for hatchie, it's already got the mounting brackets, the belts, the electric clutch?

You could always use 2 if 1 didn't provide enough air.

Daza: Would a motor putting a normal clutch on be strong enough?

BVCP: I cant use normal car a/c compressor as I already have the compressor unit, and the motor.

Wilbur: I dont have that kind of money to go and get a big compressor. Besides, I already have most of the parts here to do it. Just need the clutch mechanism, and tank.

buy an electric mate. the tank is gonna cost you a fair bit plus all the other incidentals.. you can get compressors dirt cheap these days.

the noise of an EA81 running next your shed would be a nightmare aswell

I think he wants something a little bigger then a 'dirt cheap compressor'...

Thats all up to the gearing?
Hardest part would probably be the controlled release?
A starter motor driving a scissor jack would have plenty of pull, but you'd need controls to reverse it?

Anything. I just dont want to run out of air much. I hate running out of air and waiting for the compressor to refill the tank.

Foward reverse isnt that hard, just need a couple of relays and contactors, the circuit is easy
