Gumtree and dodgy pop ups?

G'day all,

Anyone else having problems with dodgy pop ups on gumtree? Recently just about every advert I look at on my phone gets redirected to some dodgy looking site with a pop up window where the only option is to agree. The only way around it is to shut down the web browser and reopen it with the aim of hitting the back button before the pop up window screens everything off. The other way is to close the window after a reboot of the browser then reload the website and the desired page - hoping to avoid the bloody pop up window.

Very frustrating

Anyone else in the same boat?

Cheers

Sounds like you might have malware on your phone ...

do you have a pop up blocker or antivirus installed?

get avast and/or an ad blocker you can get them for free from google play.

thanks to a dodgy link on Facebook I now have them on my tablet.

Nah I don't have anything like that Jules - I'm rocking an "ancient" iPhone 4 with its frustratingly original driver platform. And I don't have enough space to upgrade to the new driver :( I wish we out in the extra hundred or whatever it was for the 16g or 32g unit... Hindsight's a bitch.

So if I've contracted a malware thing, why is it only rearing its ugly head on gumtree?

Cheers

I get the same thing on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) also Bennie - I have run a Norton Malware Scan on my phone and nothing comes up so I have just assumed that there is something dodgy going on with Gumtree itself???

Would say something is going on with gumtree as I just checked on my tablet and phone and both got redirects to a "Facebook" ad on the tablet avast shut them down but the phone was a restart the browser job.

Ebay's ploy to get people to move back to the lucritive eBay platform for selling stuff?

I tried to place a couple of ads the other week on three different devices and two different connections without any success with the photo uploads

It's an attack on the Gumtree site. It's happened in the past. It's not malware on your phone or computer. Sometimes using a different browser has helped but otherwise you'll just need to wait until they have fixed it.

Yeah I used to get those too, using the actual Gumtree app on my iphone (not the browser). Recently moved into an Android phone a few weeks ago and haven't noticed any yet (again, using the App) and haven't noticed any yet but haven't use it a lot recently.
Don't believe it's an infection on the device, it's Gumtree itself.
