Crowdfunding ...

Been researching ways to make the Subaru XV-Ute ( among many other projects ) come into fruition, I have heard that crowd funding would be one way of doing it, not sure which one to go with though ...

Couple that I've heard of before :
Plus a few more that I haven't :
Note : will add any others I find here ...

Anybody here have any experience with using them ?

Which one would be more suitable for the XV-Ute project ?

Keeping in mind the following :
  • Stage 1 - Would be concept Design,
  • Stage 2 - Getting a full size prototype made,
  • Stage 3 - Going into production ...
First stage is nearly complete, Second stage could be achieved with some input /assistance from members here, the Third stage may be a pipe dream - but something worth aiming for ... :)

Cheers, Bantum ...

Would/does this really work???

What sort of coinage are we talking here? And once it's off the ground does it just get handed to subaru to make the profits from?

I know we're keen to get it into production but I think there's a lot to work out - even if it is produced and subaru don't take it on what happens with the "piracy" of their basic design in the XV??

A full size model would be cool to present to subaru though!

Cheers

Yes! Heaps of projects thought up by individuals all over the world have been completely crowd funded by whoever thinks it's worthwhile and eventually making it to production. Basically the money goes to the individual to help them develop the idea/product. So in this case Subaru would have nothing to do with it unless like you said there's copyright infringement.

Depends how many people think it's worth putting money towards, and how much they decide to donate but the bigger ones with heaps of supporters can reach into the millions. I know of a web tv show being developed purely on crowd funding and for 6 episodes they raised $750,000. All depends on how many people think it's worth doing and how much they want to contribute. Also I'm pretty sure they money is withheld until the target is reached, to stop people walking away with thousands of dollars and not completing the project.

Bantum if you can get enough support for the idea on one of those websites then go for it! Would be a good idea to find out which of those supports Paypal in case anybody in another country decides to contribute ;) You'd need to work out a target amount to aim for and when/if you reach the target you pretty much have to complete the project.

Fund amount / time to build ...

Well I don't know, that's why I'm asking .... :)

Was thinking of initially doing the 2nd stage - So would need to get hold of a second hand XV - & modify it ...
So say approx. $ 30,000 for the car + parts & labour ( TBA ) The later would really depend on who I can get to assist in the venture ... ;)

Fair point - I'm sure we could come to some sort of agreement if ever got that far ... :D

Yes it would, although I believe that the XV-Ute design is sufficiently different from the original that there shouldn't be any copyright issues.

Exactly - so I just need to make the target realistic / achievable ...

I might get people to register interest in this with what skills, facilities etc, that they can provide for a Stage 2 prototype ...

From there we can nut out a process for the mods & how long it would take to build - etc. ...

Any Takers ?
