Is it do-able ?
I am used to music etc being compressed into .wav and mp3 but this takes the tops and bottoms off the sound ...
I have a *recording I want to preserve as it is on a single CD and jam it into my phone which is still an android. Got no other recordings in it or on its teensy weensy memory card - apart from a few pics. I will get a bigger mmory if needed but surely 800MB will fit easy.
Hmmm, never moved music from a CD to phone - must be with the charging cord with USB at one end micro at the phone.....PC gotta be in the middle.
* it is brain stabilising binaural tones that brings my head out of a migraine and would hate to lose its affect by compressing it. The portability of having it in my phone and with a pair of stereo headphones could make life a bit easier

.wav files are not compressed, hence why they are nearly 10 times the size of a 128kb/s MP3.
There are other file types that are less lossy than MP3 but generally the more its compressed the lower the quality.
You could encode it to MP3 at 320kb/s to give nearly 3 times the quality of standard 128kb/s files

look up LAC (lossless audio compression)
otherwise just make hgher bitate MP3 files. my ears cant tell the difference between a 320kbps MP3 and a CD

OK
Got a cable between PC that contains the sound disc, and the phone. Phone has a micro SD card with 2GB max capacity and over 1GB of space.
Where ever I plug phones USB cable into PC "Devices with removable storage " it seems to ID itself as not specifically it - but as :K mobile partner with green solid round with image of a phone. Where ever I plug it in comes up as drive :K , and when I click on it - bloody tries to connect to the world !
GIMP ? Thought that was a game but comes up as GNU I something Msomething Psomething.
The sound CD also comes up and is clickable, ends up with a Windows media player with options to copy to PC, copy to another device - aha, what I want but also where it effing stumps things ...
WMP :copy to CD or device" won't direct it to any :K drive, only option is supported something drivers ? - this is what switches to the 'net !
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ ... enter/Home
windows compatability centre !
Big deal !
The phones instruction sheet manual say to connect phone to PC and navigate to the USB drive and open it.
Tried fitting it up to ana adaptor and a card reader but no think a reader is gonna let stuff go the other way
Just disconnected the readers USB at PC end, reconnect and got two drive option locations :G and :I !
Two ??
Also noticed in control panel below the "devices with removable storage" I found "other" with 'mobile devices' with one icon - if i don't come back, send a search party to turn the PC power off please !! Just disconnected phones USB from PC got the warning ding dongs each time, coz i reconnected it again, no change to the mobile devices icon...may be getting deeper into the pile ....

What brand of phone do you have?
With my Samsung I had to download and install the drivers first before it would recognize as a USB drive
Your phone most likely came with a small CD with installation stuff on it

With my LG you actually have to select "turn on USB storage" in a phone menu when you connect it to PC, then it's just like a flash drive.

Aha, got the same here with this pos alien , and in the destructions I printed out for the phone, says to connect USB then mount the micro SD card, when finished dismount.
What git devised this arrangement, like remove fuel tank to refuel and fit it just before you do, but take it out before starting engine - few blank holes instructions between. Likely ending up in the hands of a just premillenium baby, me thinks !
Made no difference in pulling back cover to eject SD micro before connct to PC by USB, than insert - no difference !
Looked at phone, unlocked it to get a turn on USB mass storage device and said yes please and then picasa offered to empty pics to PC - getting somewhere,
Need to learn how to find turn on turn off mass storage instead of waiting for its prompts. More useless pics in PC !

It shouldn't be that hard :
- Copy the CD track to your computer hard drive in a format that the phone will recognize - *.wmv ( make a folder in explorer so you can find it + keep the folder open )
- Connect your phone / micro card + find it in explorer ( either by cable or via an adapter )
- You should now have two windows open in explorer ( one for phone - the other with CD track you copied earlier )
- Copy the file directly onto the micro card ( make sure you put it in the audio folder )
close up + check to see if it plays ...
Cheers, Bantum ...

wmp still did not want to present a red light to rcord to device, but whole thing was willing to record it to my PC and compressed 700 odd MB down to 56 MB so might not work as intended. Deservs a try though.
Surprised Bantum did not invade my phone at the time

Got it to PC is a good step. When i have learning patience will follow next lot of logic.
I have got some paid for recording software so will dredge that out and see what it offers.
I needed the stuff on Saturday, woulda been handy to have had it with me instead of 20 mins away at home.
Thanks for the encouragement guys
