What size can this print to? Small XV utes to display in dealerships?

Anyone developed one that can print multi coloured for extra detail/"eye candy"?

I recon we will get close to about a 200x200x150mm cube ( TBC ). Beauty of this system is you can alter the length of bar to increase the print area.

I'm assembling one now during weekly visits to 'Hack' session @ the Edge. So once I'm familiar with this set up I might build my own ...

The plan is to do all sorts of 3D printing, so will keep you updated on progress ...

P.S. - There are printers that can 'multi print' different colours, but for now you just have to change the filament over if you want a different colour ...

One of my good mates recently built a prusa i3! I've been umming and arring about whether or not to get him to give me a hand building one.

Have you seen the ethyl (I think) vapour method to make your prints smooth as hell?

I use Solidworks, then STL the file, run it thru Slic3r (I'm still getting better luck with version 0.99). Send the code to the printer with Pronterface. Firmware choice is important too. Not sure if there's a better solution for gen7 electrics but I use Marlin firmware as it does "look ahead" which means it can hold velocity around stepped arcs instead of stopping at every change of direction.

I'd love a 3D printer - but I don't know how to draw up in CAD or something of the like, plus I have no time and what you've said above sounds like way too much effort!

But it'd be cool to be able to print up just about what ever you need - even pieces you want machined so the machinist can see exactly what you want made.

My first piece would be a replacement locking centre diff housing as mine's worn but still usable. I'd love a new unit as finding a replacement is expensive or non existent

Might see if we can get a 'collection' of parts together & host them somewhere ...

I think Post Offices or OfficeWorks or the like will jump on the 3D printing service before too long offering the printers and choice of materials. Then the junk shops will offer print your own $2 toy for the kids

I know, Masters could offer it over Bunnings...REPCO would be more appropriate outlet though eh ?

Haven't heard anything yet Steptoe - Will keep an eye on that.

In the mean time, I can say that the printers I'm working on are just about ready to go & will be available for 'jo blow' to scan & print whatever they want - ( you will still need to do inductions, etc. )

Hope to be scanning & printing Subi bits soon ...

just seen a 3D printer by dremel at Bunnings, then five minutes later cruising through my jaycar mailer they have one in stand alone style - no PC required - just shove the file in via SD slot or sumptin' and you are off!

Can't wait for someone like Officeworks to offer a 3D printing service !

Think I should learn this stuff ....

Bit of an update, went & got a new printer the other day :

I'd note that the cost of them has come down considerably since last time I looked & Should make for some interesting results ...
