picking the 'detail' in movies, TV shows

Post by steptoe » Tue May 07, 2013 10:05 am

I'm beginning to think some show/movie producers are starting to not worry about exact detail of the era their shows are set in.

Been watching Mrs Biggs - the story on great train robber Ronald Biggs and his family. Latest episode was up to about 1969 and swore I saw TV news clip in colour before Ron turned it off. Pretty certain Australia did not get colour until 1975, unless Melbourne got it earlier ?

Also saw Mr Biggs with a fist of notes as he is about to go into hiding and get out of Australia. Still in 1969 and swore I saw a pineapple coloured fifty dollar note - again new in about '75.
Might have also been their street in Melbourne 1969 and it has the tar dribbles to seal up slight cracks in the bitumen road - little spider webs all over the road surface. Being real picky here, not sure if this was a process in use way back then as roads used to just pot hole up, council guys come around in the truck and patch it up.

I have though, been enjoying the selection of 60's cars :)

It has been a good production also!

The mother's been watching this also and she mentioned the TV colour thing too, maybe something in it?

Been enjoying the cars too, gets me how they find such big collections of vintage cars and the like in good condition to just use for tv shows and crashes and stuff.

I get so annoyed seeing poor detail in TV shows, movies etc. Either they think we're too dumb to notice or they are too dumb to know!

For owners of mint condition classic cars, there is some money to be made in ads & movie spots. I've heard $5000 for an ad is typical

My GF has a beautifully restored Beetle Superbug.... ;)
