marginally annoyed with my non-subaru

Post by Alex » Tue Sep 18, 2012 1:31 pm

hey guys,

so i guess about 6 months ago i sold my 2000 model outback for something newer. I was tossing up with gen4 and gen5 liberty and outback wagons but decided to jump ship and bought a 2007 VW passat V6 DSG wagon.

This is a brilliant car, it literally has everything you could think of and the V6 goes like an absolute shower of shit coupled to the DSG box.

Image

Its had afew smallish things go wrong with it in my time of ownership which are really frustrating. It needs to be ran on 98 octane fuel which is fair enough, but its super tempremental to brands. It only likes the caltex vortex 98, on BP or shell it can sometimes start abit funny.

The latest thing is its started whining, like a wheel bearing noise. Its at my mechanic today to try and isolate the problem and fix it. Which im marginally scared about it not being a wheel bearing and something more sinister like a tailshaft uni or something.

Anyways, once this current problem is fixed im giving it another chance and if something else pops up i'll be selling it and buy a gen5 outback or liberty.

Now the baby seat is my lowered riced up gen3 liberty which my misses is driving around in. Theres something wrong about that hahaha

Thats my story that i thought id share!

its a really quick car considering what it is. It beats my dads 3.0RB liberty sedan by about 3 car lengths up to 100.

Just had a call and a replacement wheel bearing which is basically a hub assembly is $250 genuine VW, so thats not too bad i guess.

It really is a shame because this car really is a great car to drive and the quality of everything craps on jap cars, just afew small things let them down in a big way.

Absolutely a nice car, love the box, but motoring journos over this side commnt on a lot of complaints re the service costs in a certain German range. And the DSG box can drum up some expletives when it might suddenly just stop on you. got chatting to a guy with Diesel Golf DSG , on holidays, and trans just let out the red flag, got a 200km tow and a two week wait before it would be ready to pick it up , not in his town of choice. You could give me one anyday, so long as someone picked up the service costs of like $1200 for the 60 or 70k service ?

I havent had to go for a big service yet. I bought it with 62km on it, and it just had its 60km service before i bought it.

Its had a minor service, oil, filter, cabin filter etc, that was $380 but its due every 12 months or 20,000km. So i cant really complan about that.

Other than that, the DSG is actually closely related to a manual tranmission as i understand. It has two clutch plates which allows two gears to be selected all the time. This makes changing gears basically un-noticable and instant.

DSG is what makes this car. Im in love with it. (until i have to service it) which as Jonno said is very expensive as it needs special oil and stuff i think.

Fark! That's still a lot for a wheel bearing in my opinion. It cost me $30 for my L-Series (fitted myself) and $115 for my Forester (fitted myself but had to pay for bearing to be pressed in and out).

That's a very brave statement... though I guess you have to live with buying a VW :p

Done!!!
Yeah definitely Paul's collection any day!
I wouldn't mind seeing what the VW is like though, but would still rather six stars.
Slightly off topic, other than Porsche, are Subaru the only maker of boxer engines or do VW still make them?

I should get my mate on here who used to have a 2006 VW polo Diesel (from new). He initially loved it. But then it had issues just after the warranty ran out - first to go was the gearbox. Later the (plastic) gear selector mechanism gave up; none in Australia, 5 week wait and $300 just for the part. Really not happy by then. There's more but I can't remember them - he managed to get rid of it before anything else went really wrong that was going to cost him more money.

Now he's gone for a brand spanking new Mitsubishi Turbo Lancer - after chewing my ear off about WRX's that he was keen on. Cheeky bugger didn't even tell me he went for the lancer!

Cheers

Polos of that era had major issues. They're cheap.

Who'd buy a polo anyway.. They're the definition of homo!

Pauls 22B would be great... If it could be legally driven as a daily...

So, who is applying for the vacancy of a Super Moderator ?

Is that why TOONGA was asking about interview questions ??
