What else does everyone do?

Post by Silverbullet » Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:15 am

Apart from fiddling with subies :o I'm talking about what spare time you get on the weekend that isn't spent under the car. So other hobbies, interests etc. All of my other hobbies I started well before cars, fixing the car is the newest on the list, and until recently has taken up the most time and money

Apart from the car, my next big activity is flying R/C, mainly indoors but also at the park if it's a nice evening and I feel like it. Current project is building a flyable WWI fighter the old way out of stick and tissue. It's a "peanut" scale Sopwith Pup from a magazine plan, and the parts are so small and fragile it's giving me a headache ;)

Next after that is beekeeping. This doesn't take up much time except the occasional hive moving (a heck of an effort) and the big once a year cleanup of all my hives which I'm doing now. And of course there's the honey extraction which only takes a day, but I haven't been properly set up to get the most out of it lately.

I also spend alot of time at the piano, took lessons for quite a few years and enjoy learning new pieces. Haven't had a lesson in nearly 2 years though and I'm falling into some bad habits :(

That's everything worth mentioning, keep in mind I have a lot more time for these things lately since I'm searching for a job, and probably won't be working full time again until next year (apprenticeship somewhere hopefully) When I was working I had practically no time for any of this. Which is probably the story with a few others :)
Will it ever end!?

I'm a golfer so im either at school, under the car or on the golf course.
I also play guitar, started taking lessons last year.Used to learn piano.
If i didn't have school this would be ideal for me.
Round of golf.
Working on the car.
Then at night when im too frustrated to work on the subie ill go and play the guitar to relax me!

So a couple other R/C nuts on here, that's cool :) Revmax, strange you should hate being a fitter/machinist, that's almost exactly what I want to do  Or Engineer of some sort.
Green eyed liberty, dad used to model trains as well (N gauge I think, the small ones) before I was around he had a circuit going around what is now my room including a removable bridge across the door :-D
Mud King that tr2 sounds like fun, always liked old British sports cars.

Brumby kid are you in a band at school yet? ;)

No i wish, our school has VERY VERY elite musicians and is hard to get into any of the bands. We would have about 10. Same names in every band:rolleyes: Band 1 tom dick harry, Band 2 tom dick harry etc. The other thing is they dont want many guitar's they only have about 2.
I prefer Golf, but if someone asked i would join/play with them.
Cheers Cam

Well I like computers, the technical side, abit of coding and game playing.
Outdoors wise I like camping, fishing, 4wding, play abit of golf and hanging with the mates. Like many of you guys the Subie is taking over some of the other hobbies.

I spend all my time and money on my Brumbys at the moment.
I did try playing soccer again this year - but that turned out badly :

no one else looks like they care about you there !! didn't you make any noise??

I think I have become a little engrossed in worshipping Fuji lately. Think I have licked the last mint stamp from the early eighties (Gannon - you got it!) , gave my old dad his coin collection back where he lost the treasured coin of 1878 half penny about 9mm diameter and blames me !

Projects coming up will be hauling out a 4 sp Brumby box for scrap (needs front seal and new selector rail and rough up of thirds cones), a few pairs of EA82 and 81 heads for scrap, about six used water pumps for scrap, think an J 16 is going to scrap too after losing my mind following ECU wiring last night, maybe now a bare EA82T block can also go to scrap...

No - he came in from behind and chopped my standing leg. I've broken that leg before (playing soccer as well funnily enough) and he hit me that hard it felt like I had broken it again - but it just turned out to be a knee injury. Virtually the same as Steve Johnsons injury last week against the eagles. But he's younger and fitter andhas better medical access - I'm 46, only just fit and don't have any medical at all
And I just cannot believe he managed to get up from that and play a week later

I go to motor shows if I can, just went to the Jamboree (fours and rotaries) at Willowbank dragway yesterday and also play guitar semi professionaly on the weekends. I just played on Saturday Night for the Highfields Rugby League club presentations. It was a good night.

Here is a quick slide show of some things on my computer set to me playing the shadows song, Atlantis.
