Question for electrical boffins - exploding dolphin (torch)

This happened at work.

Normal everyday Everyready Dolphin torch (not the recharging model) was in use when it 'exploded'

Singed the uniform, sprained thumb.

Battery: NO damage at all. Newish cheap bulk buy battery dry cell.

Globe: std issue. No damaged, still works.

Torch: force was enough to blow the front off past the thread.


Noise was heard 30m away. I was on leave - the hardware has been disposed of.

Theories??

somone was hiding their stash of gelignite in there when it got too hot =}

likely the battery was leaking hydrogen gas, Dolphin torch being waterproof kept the gas inside until the pressure got too much...

Yep i think Lefty is on the right track

The small spark created by switch most likely ignited it

i think this wood be it as well
as if u look at it as being a tank with no holes some thing got to give
