coffee problems

Hey all you fellow coffee drinkers.... its the end of the world at my place, the coffee machine blew up!!
I seem to have broken the seal above the group handle.... now this happened when trying to pour an espresso, rather messy actually. The coffee I was using was freshly ground, now I'm worried that I may have ground the coffee too finely or packed it in the group handle too finely, thus creating too high of a pressure in the machine.... I would have thought there would be pressure regulators in the machine though?? and I don't think I packed it in too tight, and I'm sure it looked about the same consistancy as the last lot of pre ground coffee I bought....
dammit I WANT MY COFFEE!!

the worst thing is, I have heaps of fresh coffee on hand, no instant coffee, and I don't even own a perculator!!
Was thinking about having a go at turkish coffee brewed on the stove, but I don't have quite the right gear for that (I need a briki)

I resorted to a cheap plunger from woolies while I had to wait for a new group handle after the handle snapped off mine.

the seal is actually broken in two pieces. Going to sort something out this week assuming I don't die in the meantime. I wouldn't have thought that the coffee was too tight/fine but I will be paranoid from now on.

Go and get an ex commercial machine. All the home machines seem to have the same pump powering them and shitty seals. I have an old boema lever pull type machine, it was 600 bucks off ebay and a complete set rebuild cost about another 400 and I reckon it will outlast me with home use .
