any ideas as to how to get the smegging dog to stop barking ALL the time!!! I am going insane. he's 9 months old or so, purebred red cattle dog, he barks territorially, barks for attention, barks to chase things, barks because he's bored. barks to hear his own bark. barks to play, barks to eat. barks all the time.

i walk him over an hour a day, normally at night, i can't get to bed early enough to get up early enough to take him in the morning before work. other than that, he's a spoilt brat and goes around the yard and in the house all day. I can't do ANYTHING lately without him barking and wanting to play, which I don't mind, its just I can't hear myself think and I can't play all the time. I do have other stuff to do sometimes...

throw some cows in your back yard for him to play with

One of my mates grandparents had a collar that sprayed lemon juice mist from it everytime the dog barked, it worked on the frequency of the bark it think. The dog didn't bark so much anymore. Probably real expensive.

Give the dog a smack on the arse. Nothing hardm not to hurt it, just to make sure it knows it's not on. Works with my dog

Use a rolled up newspaper as it will give of a loud noise that will startle it.

Hehehe... It wasn't a free dog was it? These are the most expensive dogs!

Those electric dog collars work well. Completely changed the behavior of my mates blue heeler, calmed it right down. I think the collars allow 3 barks, and on the fourth give the dog a zap. They bought it off ebay from the US.

I think its going to take some persistance.... going with the smack so he knows its not on. He is a very spoilt dog, but we are planning on him being not too spoilt....

I like the idea of getting a big brown cow to keep him in line...

Seriously, a red cattle dog is a very energetic breed. They've been bred to chase cattle all day. I don't know your circumstances but you might not have enough work for him?

If he likes chasing balls get a tennis racket & ball, no effort on your part but will give him much more exercise than walking him though it won't stop him barking, a mate had one of those remote control zapper collars & it worked a treat on his aggressive dog if it headed toward another dog while it was out, pretty sure it would stop him barking if you wound it up to 240v, lol.

he probably gets a bit bored at times. I try and occupy him as best as I can. Still working on extending the yard so its a bit bigger. We love him to bits and I really don't mind spending some time with him, sometimes he gets a bit much, but on the whole I don't know what we ever did without him.

I know a cow wouldn't keep him in line.... just think its a funny threat to make, cause he is a cattle dog after all...

I really don't mind that he wants to shred the natives when they wander past either, that can only be a good thing down here.
