Ok after trying to work out how to do the finke this year on a bike i came to realise it ain't going to be,well not this year.So in order to keep the adventure bug a live i decided to try and become a hardcore postie

.
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306770
Been riding postie bikes for work for almost 14 years so i got a few hours up, hardcore well we'll see,i guess a shattered knee and a few superman over the bars might count LOL.
Hope to be picking up my postie bike project this week weather permitting. Its got a blown motor but comes with a oversize barrel piston etc.Being a later model has the better brakes and suspension

.Was thinking of putting a lifan 140cc in but i think i'll stick with honda's reliable 110.As the project comes together i'll update with a few pics and details.
The ride this year for the hardcore crew is from Bald Knob to Birdsville with proceeds/donations going i think to the Flying Doctors. It is in July for a week, then you just gotta work out how to get back.If the plan doesn't come together in time i will be well and truly setup for 2010.
Maybe it's kind o f weird to chuck this on a subie forum but be all got other interests eh.

Most of the sections look like 4 to 6hrs by google maps.On a postie bike maybe double it ,most likely all day.Bring it on.

Way to go.
Did you know they came through here a few years ago?
It was rumoured that some of the participants may have been riding under the influence

There are plenty of postie bike rides. One is the challenge, more sedate safe ride with everything supplied including bike .Another is the hardcore, supply everything yourself and raise a min of $500 goes to charity, lots of crazy antics maybe unsafe.
I wish i could sneek one home.Got a new work one yesterday, nice and shiny with only 2km on the clock, today it met its first bit of offroad and mud.

Good luck with this one Will.
Things I would upgrade would be front spring rates, (I used to bottom mine out under hard braking) also raise the height of the foot pegs for extra cornering angle, and try to sqeeze alot more power from the motor.
Here's a quick list of things I had replaced in my five years as a postie.
: Three cush drives
: Three sets of foot pegs
: Two exaust baffle (postie bikes backfire very well)
: Front brake cable (approx 3 a year)
: And many front and rear tyres.
I do miss that job and the strange things I would see on my run.
I'll keep an eye on this thread it will be very interesting.

I've been riding the FOUL BEASTS FROM HELL

coming on to ten years now and i would prefer to have my ass mig-welded shut then go any where near a Postie bike after work. I would do the trip three times over as long as I didn't have to go near a Honda ct110.
But really it would be a great trip. (as long as I didn't have to go near a Honda ct110.)

LOL Chris.Backfires ...i take it you mean keybangers:twisted:.The suspension i'm thinking different forks of something more trailbike orientated. For the rears i believe ct200 units fit.For power/reliablity i'm thinking a cam for tighe and some restriction removing

jsubie i guess i'm kind of wierd, have a lot of respect for the old ct110.My daily rider to and from work is a klr650 and before that a ridgid harley so i guess my arse is already mig welded shut:)
