if dog is mans best friend...?

How come to refer to a female human as a bitch is a derogatory term ?
We have terms such as 'dog act' and 'sly dog' , again not depicting someone we would trust.
If something stands out like dogs balls, would it be so kind to mans best friend to point out the obvious ?
Some of our Darwin Award Nominees could be descibed as 'dumb as dog sh1t'
In fact , to imply any sort of 'dog' name to a fellow human does not seem complimentary at all
Having been bitten recently by a friends pooch when offered the back of my hand for a sniff in the owner company, I now look at dogs in a different light.
It may well have been the first time pooch has bitten anyone , it was a first for me too !!
My GP obviously doubts the dog spit as being safe to come into contact with because he prescribed some preetty strong anti biotics , that, well, had a rather drastic effect on some of my 'movements' shall I say.
