Now this is from another thread
xaymaca wrote:I guess you have a choice then... Personally on my RX7 I found a BOV was ridiculously annoying. I don't run a BOV, plumback or atmo - but that's another topic altogether.
And so i guess i am interested in exploring this some more (just out of curiosity).

Without setting up a poll we have 2 options (i have excluded NA for ovious reasons). In no specific order...
1) No BOV and you spool against a closed waste gate (factory standard 4 most turbo engines).
2) Addition of BOV (either Plum back, or atmo venting or new 1's can switch between these 2 settings).

So, any thoughts/comments/suggestions/blar blar blar...

Noise or no noise, either way I think that a BOV is not necessary but well worth fitting to a turbo motor. I have never had an EJ with out a BOV due to the fact that they come standard with them.

The EA82 though is a different story. I have had both with and with out BOVs. There is a definate difference felt when changing gears between the two. The one with the BOV is in to boost far sooner with the BOV than the one with out.

This has been a longwinded argument on a rotary forum I frequent.

14 pages of OH YEH BABY! :? Maybe spread it over a few days and then report back here with your conclusions.

You do not have to sign up to that forum to view that particular topic.

Really? No wonder my mechanic looked at me funny when I told him I thought I broke a piston

A turbo is a turbo either way though. They still spool up, are still affected the same by backpressure in the intake etc.

There are some interesting theories people have/make up on there though.
