Car cassette player to i-Phone 4

Post by Cliff R » Sun May 12, 2013 10:52 am

My 98 model Suzuki Grand Vitara has a cassette player.
My music is on an i-Phone 4.
I want the 2 to talk together, ie, play music.
I have a cassette adapter which has a 3.5mm plug for going from the cassette adapter to the head phone jack of an i-Pod etc but I want it to go to the i-Phone directly.
I don't fancy pulling the cassette player out (yet) from the car (maybe in the future) and replace it so does anyone have any idea of a way to get the old and the new connected.

Can't you just plug it into the Iphone headphones port? Should work fine.

What exactly do you mean?
Unless your radio/cassette has an aux/cd input jack, you are limited to using either a tape adapter or an FM transmitter.

At one stage I was looking at dismantling the tape player and removing the cassette read head and connecting a line in plug, but this was gonna be quite involved and I ended up using the CD stacker input

Well, don't I feel like a complete Twat !!!
I have never used the I-Phone with head phones and thought headphones plugged in via the wide, main socket on the bottom of the phone.
Sorry about that.
I tried the cassette adapter (as per bellows picture) and I may need to buy a new one as this unit is fairly old (about 10 years worth) and I didn't want to spent the money at Supercheap yesterday and buy a new on (comes back to thinking the phone didn't have a standard 3.5mm socket)
I know there is a loss of sound quality when using these cassette adaptors but mine is pretty bad re left to right balance, ie, there is virtually no sound on the RH side unless I put all the balance over to the right.
No worries, I will get a new one in the near future.

All good mate. Some of the rounded iphones had issues with headphone jacks plugging all the way in due to the rounded surface, some work better then others. You can normally pick up these fantastic peices of technology at $2 shops or for less than $5 on ebay. Auto stores seem to always charge like wounded bulls for them for some reason (I've seen $15+)

I had the same problem with one of those tape adapter things, all sound out of one speaker and very quiet and poor quality at that. Gave up and installed a CD player with AUX input instead, much better :)
Will it ever end!?
