Advice internet scam

Post by Alex » Thu Aug 25, 2011 3:07 pm

Hey Guys,

basically we are decorating the babies room at the moment. I want to put a rug in there. So i googled it, and purchased this rug from these guys on the 7th of August

http://www.nationwiderugs.com.au/p/4447 ... ifont.html

I have purchased a rug from the internet before from a DIFFERENT place and had absolutely no issues. Top quality rug, good service etc etc.

I had a phone call from the guy on Monday or Tuesday this week i cant remember, telling me the rug was damaged in transit and it was returned to him. (apparantly a forklift stuck its forks thru it)

he said he was going to get onto his supplier to find if they had more stock and he would get back to me that day or the next.

He hasnt got back to me so i went to the contact us part of his page and sent him an email. I then googled his business trying to find a contact number. When i stumbled across multiple pages all complaining about him.

http://www.tradeleaks.com/leak/509/?c=9002

Im going to give him afew more days to respond, if theres no response i plan on getting fair trading involved and contacting paypal to see what they can do for me.

I have no phone number to contact him, just an email address.

just the fact he has come up with afew 'excuses' already makes me think ive been done over (or in the process of being done over)

can you guys give me any advice? I know its relatively early days, but the baby is due in a month and i want to get ontop of this. Its not so much the money, its more the fact he thinks he get away with treating people like this.

cheers

In vic we have consumers affairs to complain to and there should be an equivilent in WA. Paypal will handle the money though.

Bugger mate! I recently used the dispute part of Paypal, pretty simple but it can be a time consuming process that ends up with Paypal making a decision as they see it by your case...

Simple to use once you've started the process but as I've said, it can be lengthy. I only opened my case as I hadn't received an ebay item before the time to open a case was due - I'd contacted the seller about this explaining where I was coming from and they were most understanding, but by the sounds of this seller he's in a different game to the seller I was dealing with (my seller was really genuine which made the whole thing easy).

All the best with it mate - I hope you get your money back or the rug ASAP.

Cheers

ive used paypal dispute before its a very fair system. i strongly suggest that when you make a dispute, don just say "i didn't receive it". say the date of purchase the multiple attempts of contact, a link to that trade links site, copy paste all email communications, etc. because if they look at your case and see that you have tried your best to resolve it your self they will just refund you the money. works every time

okay thanks for the tips guys.

he contacted me yesterday and told me to pick out a different rug cos there are no more of the one i wanted.

waiting on an email from him with my options.

at least he has contacted me, but im starting to get the feeling he is jumping around the place (just as others have experienced)

i will definately get onto paypal if i dont have this resolved and a rug on my doorstep over the next couple of weeks.

should have just bought from the place i bought from previously. They were great and sent out a top quality item.

Alex don't even bother!!!!!! start a dispute otherwise like the others you will get ripped off. this guy obviously makes his money importing seconds from Indonesia or Thailand then charges what seem to be low prices for something that isn't worth the time and trouble.

If you take delivery of the rug you will have abided by his terms and conditions and paypal won't be able to do squat. start a dispute now as he can't give you the stock you ordered and won't give you a refund.

alrite, abit of an update.

i have been emailing the guy and have recieved no hostility on his behalf at all. Infact he has been really good to deal with.

He has offered me some other choices, but none of them suit the nursery's theme.

I have asked for my money back and he is in the process of refunding me.

Good news alround! thanks for all your advice fellas.

(plus we bought a rug locally over the weekend for extremely cheap) those 'closing down' sales really do bag some serious savings.

Forget internet scams, what about face to face cold calling??
A mate who is as tight as a fishes back passage got sucked in by a salesman selling customers needing vehicle servicing claimng his network of customers could divert $30k a year to mates business, who paid up near 400 bucks for what turned out to be advertising fee - no more. Turns out he was selling same spin to many workshops in the area. So did he have 300k wortth of work to share amongst 10 workshops ?? :)

Before I could blurt out cancel cheque, by next mornng cheque was cleared. What is this takes 3 days to clear a cheque?? Less than 24hrs, he must have paid a fast clearance fee. It took many mnay emails, non returned phone call messages and we got a small cheque of $15 made out to another name entirely. Nice try. he was ill, or more often overseas in NZ. Then I tracked him by ABN register and other means - addressed his correspondence in full name to residential address in sunny QLD. Finally got my mates money back after 6 months.

Check out their conditions - you are authorising them/their courier to leave item at address if unattended - no need to sign . Later they add no PO box due to need for signature!!

I wonder how much Joe Blow would be quoted to send a rug this size anywhere in Oz by an express courier. Subtract that from $199, subtract a a little profit and you have a rather cheap rug !!

Glad to hear that you got it sorted! Just a shame that it caused all that stress that you don't need...

Got a pic of the nursery?

Cheers

Toonga I think his address really is "2604 The Address, Hope Island, QLD", not that it was withheld. I googled "The Address, Hope Island, QLD"...There are properties for sale there incl 2603 The Address, HOPE ISLAND QLD 4212, just across the road lol. You could be his neighbour haha
