Mercedes Vito Identification

Hey
Anyone out there had the pleasure of working on mercedes commercial vehicles? I had the dubious honour of doing a service on a high roofed mercedes vito this afternoon, and I can't for the life of me work out if it is a 109cdi or a 115cdi!!

Its not written on it anywhere!! Any ideas how to tell the models apart? I understand volkswagen speak, and toyota speak, and subaru speak, and many many other forms of strange languages, but I can't seem to work out the mercedes vito.... sprinters aren't this bad!!

Um... i remembered from an sprinter high ceiling that my uncle in law used to have, I think the model number is on the plate in engine bay just below where the wipers are... it'll tell you what model is it...

Yeah its not bad, specially its 2.7 litre TD and has the balls..

its not in the door jambs on those thing is it?

ive worked on a couple of mercedes but not enough to remember.

Nah i think its in engine bay...
Another place is on the grill sometimes merc leaves a number behind ie. 313CDI etc

I didn't know the Vito's came in a high roof. At least they don't anymore. My boss is a Mercedes Benz LCV Technician.

I'll chuck in my 2c worth to see if i can help.

Places to look for the compliance plate (if thats what your after) are
in the door jambs eg. (new falcons comp plates are near the front door hinges drivers side)
or under the bonnet somewhere or if the vito has sliding side doors,check just inside near the step. If all else fails and you still have the vehicle in your grasp, get the vin off the rego label and make a call to a merc dealer.

I've been detailing cars for a couple of months and tryin to find compliance plates or vin numbers can keep me amused for a good 5 minutes sometimes.

Good Idea. The rego label should have the model on it.

the dreaded Vito , this identification can be a nightmare. I may be wrong in the model ID being in the engine number but I 'think' the engine number is the deal, it is located under the drivers side of the engine, get in behind front wheel with a torch and tools to remove either the a/c compressor, alternator more likely, when you got all the numbers it can be worked out from there.

or a call to your friendly merc dealer with the VIN number may help

what model year is ya Vito ? I got some software somewhere.... high roof, is it long or short how many side and rear doors ? may be the key

there are also the 108cdi and 112cdi just to make things harder

it may help with year model and the 5 digit CPA number on the compliance plate - if you can find that !!

its a 2005 merc vito. The compliance plate had an odd number on it which doesn't make sense in the aftermarket world, i'm assuming this is the cpa number? and I'm assuming that this is the same as a DAM number on a peugeot? (like a build code number on something normal).

Its a high roof, short wheelbase, had two sliding doors, and two seats. manual transmission, can't remember if it had cruise or not. airbox on top of engine, pollen filter in centre of plenum. takes a wco40 oil filter cartridge on passengers side of engine slightly under airbox.

I've been told if its a manual its probably the 109 and probably doesn't have cruise control, if its an auto it is probably a 115 and has cruise control.

Dealers aren't always very helpful when you work at an aftermarket franchise (I work for ultratune) and Boyce's workshop manuals aren't descriptive enough to help sometimes, for example, a proton gen2 doesn't EXIST in boyce's software on the computer.

Also, the boyce's system says I have either an oil change service or a maintainence plus service, and doesn't say which one is done when. I normally try and get whatever I think will need changing when it is due.

I will be getting the vito back (it is owned by the business next door to work) and putting an air filter and cabin filter in it.

the model number is only displayed on the grille on a sprinter. the compliance plate doesn't say the model number (although it may have what i think is a cpa number) and the other identification stickers don't say anything useful. It has daimler chrysler stickers on it. Can't even find the service books!!

CPA - compliance plate approval number is generally top left hand corner of an Australian compliance plate. All cars after a certain date have these factory fitted or attached on our shores if imported.

I have no idea why they use such weird arse numbers for something, use it to identify but hide the blody clues as to what number it is !!

Was talking to a UK based Merc dealer on the weekend who says the Euro Merc dealers are good with the info as it has been made law to disclose to whoever needs the details on such matters.

I'll get into some online data I have access to and see....

up to 09/04 comp plate shoul be betwen drivers door and B pillar, other than that no good

Ring Mercedes dealer and quote VIN and order a badge for the next poor bugger that comes along - see what comes if anything

I will write down a lot more info when I put the filters in it either this week or next week.
