Imageshack, dummies and their link codes ?

Post by steptoe » Mon Jan 31, 2011 9:45 pm

It may please a few - I have made steps to relearn posting pics up here. OK I 'exported' a pic in picasa to my desktop (still to find it ON my desktop) but experience tells to keep it showing in another window while I play , in case I lose it. Better than emailing it to self to shrink it I can tell you

Anyone able to explain the results of each Imageshack link please

1] link
2] direct link
3]widget code
4] forum code use this one gets a nicel clean pic on screen
5] Alt forum code
6] html code
7] forum thumbnail
8] alt forum thumbnail
9] html thumbnail

maybe highlight links not used in here.

I seem to either have no success, little success and forget or cannot stick 'em up in size you guys do.

Saved this pic as 185kb

and not sure which link option I took.

Result for option 1] link

Result for option 2] direct link is :

3] Widget code

Here is some very first steps like:

I got picasa the picture file software from google as a free download

In Picasa I selected desired pic first by viewing it, it also appears as a thumbnail in lower left hand 'selection' box

click on green lightning bolt button to hold the selected pic

next, look across lower screen to see a file icon with 'export' on it.

click export

should now have an "export folder" window

i use export to desktop , use browse button to venture further afield if you dare

there is a name pic file field to take avantage of

then 'image size option' is auto selected as 'resize' to 640 pixels - results in about 170kb size file down from however big the pic was originally and results in good size pic in forum window/thread/post

tick add watermark if you wish to leave a small text on picture when it posts up
- i used steptoe photography :)

click on OKNext comes up a new window of desktop files or whatever place in your PC you exported it to.

Then with a new window I go visit http://www.imageshack.com , wait 'til it loads,
it auto selects bullet on upload images/video

I click on 'browse'

then select 'desktop' as that is where I exported pic to, find the pic i just exported and named, click on it to highlight it in blue, click on 'open' button at bottom of this same dropdown window,

photo icon or name shows in next new window,

click on it to highlight it

click on open

then click on 'upload now' button and wait for it to do its stuff

It may tell you you need latest adobe to really upset things as you learn, so update it ! takes no time at all

As it uploads your pic you will see green haze over file name and red X, when all done, red X turns to green tick and new window appears at your screens left with a choice of addresses

I use fourth one down (now) Forum code, click on the forum address and Ctrl C to copy it or file window to copy

That address copied now zip off to AUSubaru.com , make up new post or revisit post you want to stick pic in and Ctrl V or paste the address in and the rest sorts itself out and you get a pic like this , with a credit to imageshack too
