Looking good. How do you open the tailgate or is the spare tyre carrier a fold down type or something. Looks pretty good. And in the first pic, you missed a spot. I can still see some white on it.

pretty solid setup for a wheel carrier, Which way does it open?
I have seen of late a few late model people mover type vehicles that have a spare wheel carrier bolted to the tow bar.
I have spoken to a couple of the owners and it appears that the latest and greatest poeple movers etc, have the dicky Emergency thin wheel as a spare! As one of the owners said, by the time he loads the family and all the associated gear in for holidays he exceeds the spare wheel load rating!!!!!. Hows that for ADR compliance.
So he bought a normal spare to cope and they dont fit in the spare tyre well, hence the adaption of an after market wheel carrier bolted to the tow ball, which folds down and back to allow the barn door to open. From what I saw, it appeared to be an adaption of a push bike carrier that suits the large 4WDs (they have a pin which you take out and fold the rack backwards to allow acces in the back doors/tailgates. Has anyone gone down this track and is the subaru towbar up to the job for this setup????

i built the carrier from scratch and it swings out to the passenger side so the boot clears the tyre, it kind of slots through where the corner is cut out for the tail lights... i havent bashed anything it on it yet but the main cross bar is made out of 50x50x5mm RHS with built in recovery points so its tough as nails, and i incorporated my old tow bar which was bolted to the car in about 6 points so it aint gonna move
