I'm going to take 2 sample cables to a cable doctor tomorrow.
I'll ask the question about making up one.
I'm a little dubious about reproducing the end where it fits into the EJ backing plates...

I really would've liked to have used a leather Lib RS turbo lever, but it just doesn't match the console (for a Vortex on the other hand)

A VL shell is only worth $17. Yeap $17. Better off getting sims to come get it for free.

meh, I needed to take some frustration out on something anyway.
And I couldn't bash it anymore as it didn't have a straight panel left.

Was $17 just for a bare shell, or rolling, or what? I've got a lot of other metal to go with it.
Beside $17 is at least 3 beers at the pub.

Went to the cable doctor today.
It took a while to explain to him that I only wanted the cable inners joined, not both cables together. Which turns out that while its doable, its most likely not legal or engineerable.

New cable inner is $47ea, or a complete new assembly is $80ea. So that's $160.
Still going to think about a floating metal bracket that fits onto each cable end though. Just going to have to seal it in.

have a look at a vw beetle hand brake setup, they use a plate to join both cables together just under the handbrake cable. Might be useable.

$17 for just a shell. If you can get a car float for nothing then it could be worth it. Let me know how you go?

Currently getting custom handbrake cables made up.
They will be as long as the combined length of the Lib & L cable, with the L end at the handbrake end, with the Lib fitting at the other.
Hopefully should be picking them up tomorrow & we'll then see how they fit.

Ok, been a while, mainly because the project has had nothing done to it.

Handbrake cables have been made up but not fitted yet (first week in new year job).

I've basically given up on putting the EJ motor in. I've had too much hassle trying to get all the coolers in the front, plus fans.
I'm going to try a different tack by installing a H6 motor instead. I will still have radiator to engine clearance issues, but without the need to fit an intercooler radiator in with the A/C, I could fit the fans in between the rad & A/C.
Plus I'm in the need for a tow car for the rally car project I'm trying to do (too many projects at the moment...) & the 3.0L 6 cylinder would be a better bet for this.

So, if anyone is chasing an early WRX engine with ECU & wiring, plus a Lib water-air intercooler...
Also, if you know where I can source an early H6 motor & wiring (prob half cut better)...?

Ok, the project is now become defunct.:???:
Too many other things on & a better car now resides in the garage.

The running gear (except the engine) is spoken for already.
Anyone after a good rust free shell?
Also selling the one-off factory coupe bodykit I imported from the US.
I have a complete RX turbo interior for sale also.

In exchange, I'm searching for a latish model running carby engine (88 or newer) & a touring wagon interior in preferably blue (where I'll just need seats & door trims), or a complete interior otherwise.

I'm a bit disappointed it has never come to finish, too, but I had lost interest for a time. Grand plans just a little too grand, unfortunately.
To get so far,...

Plus I have 5 cars & a trailer at my place, & I'm looking at moving out & share renting again, so a bit of rationalisation is necessary. I want to be down to 2 & the trailer by February.

Awwww so sorry to hear this too Wagonist!...your car was going to be a long distance 'sister' to _MY_ yellow wagon...hehe I too was looking forward to seeing her completed....mine is almost done....but has cost me 12mths, an arm and a leg....and a head.....and a torso.....and.....and........

Big projects like ours are very hard to stick to, to complete....so I know exactly where you are coming from mate...

All the best anyhow... :)

I may still end up finishing the painting, if I can get a cheap enough price.
I may also finish putting the RX turbo interior in as well.
Both of these involve money that I may not recoup (but that's pretty standard with modded cars)

Thought about fitting the bodykit too, but I'd rather sell that to someone who'd appreciate it.

Ok, I'm after some serious offers to offload some gear that's no longer going to be used for this project.

Also happy to take some part exchange, as I'm chasing some bits to get back to standard.
  • Complete RX turbo sedan interior. Driver's seat needs some attention.
  • Complete US spec 3 door ground effects kit (ie skirt kit). Will fit straight onto a sedan, but rear pieces need work to fit to a wagon. Guaranteed to be the only one in Oz.
  • Import spec turbo cluster (volts & oil pressure). For extra, I can finish modifying it with the 240km/h version I got out of a Vortex.
  • the WRX engine & stripped wiring loom
  • I have some spare doors & tailgate from DL model
I can post up pics

I need:
  • blue interior out of a late model Touring Wagon (door trims & seats are minimum)
  • Carbied engine (post 88 model & not too many k's, sub 200 000)
  • pair of post 86 front doors in white

wagonist wrote:I'm searching for a touring wagon interior in preferably blue (where I'll just need seats & door trims), or a complete interior otherwise.
I should be able to help you with the complete interior (just name it i have it ALL) in good condition and in blue.

Actually (just edited) I have just been out to the garage and also have both of these items

You due back in Perth again anytime soon?! :-D

What sort of $ are you looking for the body kit?

The kit owes me $900 (shipping it from the US was a major killer because the side skirts made it oversize:rolleyes::mad:).
It does also include the special undertray & rad support that the front air dam bolts upto.
I do have another front dam that has been damaged, but nothing that a little plastic welding wouldn't fix.
