Here is the project so far.. Just started with a bit of body work around the tray. I didnt have any chrome strip on the tailgate and if you have ever tried to replace it you have more money than me.. So I removed it all and welded up the seam. Very slow work as can only weld few inches at a time. I think it looks good. What do you think? Please dont critisised the paint work as only gave it a patch spray job to seal it from moisture. Will get it professionally sprayed when done all the chopping and welding..

Yeah, I think it gives it a more modern style, since Subaru has not brought out a new model for the last 14 years! I have a lift kit on the way and larger wheels, sports seats, steering wheel and a few other goodies to fit, 5 speed etc. Slowly getting there though.

Will be excellent when done (looks great now), kind of like the "smoothing" you see on mini-trucks etc.

If you do it simmo, I worked out the best was was to get some sheeting cut into 30mm wide strips, clamp this up under inside the panel and then weld the seam. It is very slow and tedious but I reakon its worth the work. And dont forget to spray some fish oil up inside when finished to stop it rusting out...

If you cut strips and then weld them in behind the panels you will end up with a rust trap due to the over hang, it will catch all sorts of stuff.
