1983wagon, re the bulbar...what a bargain!! Looks fantastic as it is, the only bit I would paint black is the edge of the top bar facing the windscreen, so as to not get headlight reflection!
Pillarless Jim Welcome to the 'classic 3' club! I too, have a wagon, coupe and Brumby! Also an L series (now a wrecked shell), a 4 runner and a Torana! So with all due respect, I have to beg to differ. There was no Australian delivered Brumby with turbo or auto! They were available options to the American market (called Brat not Brumby over there) but they weren't options here in Oz.

Well took her for the first test drive and she drives awesome.. So smooth.
No leaks after I got home which is also good. One thing I stupidly did forget to put on the new radiator was the thermo switch from my old one which obviously left me scratching my head as to why my fans wernt working... The plastic grommet that was in there surprisingle held up lol.Will wait for it to cool down and fit it.
She did seem to run a lil on the warm side at idle but cooled down while driving.. I'm not sure if the fans will help that at all. I never changed the thermostat I'm maybe thinking I might need to get a genuine one and put one on. Hopefully that cools it down a bit.

Are you sure the thermo switch is a good one? The fan in my wagon didn't work either, the ute one did work until I swapped its blocked up rad for the good one out of the wagon, only forgot to swap the switch over and now the fan in the ute doesn't work anymore :rolleyes: It's the single yellow wire switch down near the drain plug, so we're not getting confused.

Glad you got the fans working. Please dont do anything to that awesome bullar, except perhaps some non-reflective tape or paint on the back around the headlights to cut glare...it is great just as it is! :cool:

Looking at the pic, I'd say the earth strap needs to be screwed onto the radiator, to help complete the electrical circuitry :)

Love this pic.. that's such an awesome MY Touring Wagon and that bulbar sets it off nicely :)

Yeah this pic was taken a couple days ago. That was screwed down at the time. Just a loose connection going to the thermo switch caused the problem.

Bought my genuine thermostat and gasket today... Decided to snap a bolt taking my housing off, now stuck in the manifold.. The other came out easy. I have about 2-3mm sticking out from the face of the manifold. I've tried getting to it with vice grips but really awkward spot with stuff getting in the way. Pretty pissed that I will more than likely have to take the manifold off to get it out. Worst comes to worst I will have to take it to a machine shop.... Anyone else had the fun of this happening.

Kicking myself that I didn't change it when it was in peices :(

Yep happened to me on an EA82 mainfold. DON'T HIT IT! I cracked the thermostat housing off the manifold (the EA82 one)... new manifold required!

Have you tried an ezyout? You drill a hole in the bolt and insert the ezyout, then as you turn the ezyout in (it's left hand threaded) it bites into the bolt and hopefully grabs enough to remove the last bit of the bolt.

Hope it's an ezy :P fix!

Yeah I've read up alot about the ezy out will give It a go. Never used one before but.
I've already got the housing off safely. Such a clean build with no problems... Started first pop when I went to start it and everything.. I new it was too good to be true :/ something had to go wrong lol

Happened to me many a time and I can only say I'm glad it's not just me.

But it's really easy, like Bennie has said, just use an ezyout but I'd also recommend putting some penetrate all over it and let it soak in overnight or add some small heat to the manifold, so the alloy expands a little before trying to remove the broken bolt.
