well ever since ive started workin on this motor ive fell in love with the lil ea81 and have no regrets.
I know that feeling well  Can't beat their simplicity and reliability I reckon. And never mind the colors that engine bay does look immaculate, just like the rest of the car. You've certainly got a real gem there. We should meet up sometime when my wagon is finished, we can compare :)

Yeah for sure mate. Would love to see another MY in person. I don't get to see any others often. I get excited when I see a grandpa driving a beat up old one now and than haha.

But then it wouldnt be original! You're restoring a classic Subaru in mint condition...keep it original. That my view ;)

If your talkin about the sun visor there's a few guys here that make them. They are on eBay also for about $170 brand new. Mines as old as the car. It's seen better days.

Wow.. that's one of the cleanest MY Touring Wagons I've seen in a long time. Come over to WA for a holiday and we'll get them altogether :)

I too like the EA81 motor for it's simplicity and reliability. Keep up the good work

Your Touring Wagon looks great...but here are a couple of things to thinks about: the 3 speed automatic gearbox means that yopur car is actually an AWD, because inside it has a "transfer clutch", or in other words, a centre diff. With the manual, the cars remain 4WD. This auto was used in the Turbo versions of the wagon, sedan, coupe and Brumby, so one would imagine they must be pretty strong. I have just bought my own '82 'Tourwag', but it's a high mileage one in very good condition. It's to go with my '83 Coupe and '89 Brumby. Good luck with the sunny Sundays!

Ok, I'll take the bait. This is not an AWD gearbox. It's a 4wd gearbox that will wear out if not used correctly - it's a set of clutch packs, not a mechanical centre diff!

There was no auto available in the brumby, any brumby with an auto box is a conversion.

Sorry to be harsh in your introduction to the forum, but mis information doesn't help anyone ;)

Cheers

WOW that carby is clean! Where did you get that done? Price? I'm looking for somewhere to drop my twins off for rebuild and get them bench tested as well. Let us know how it runs :) I like the bullbar too, very clean.

Auto carburettor services. 55 Norfolk rd, Marion. $180 it ended up costing me but they did an amazing job. Literally looks like new.. Will let you know how it runs..... Picked up the bullbar for $150. The trouble I went into to find a bullbar let alone one in this condition. I'd consider that a bargain.

Cheers, Evan

The mounts where all there. The last owner had it polished a while ago so got most of the deep scratches out. Considering powder coating it black as the alloy doesn't really suit the wagon. But that will be next year if I can be bothered. :)

Hey, guys...no sarcasm, no ill will. The turbo Brumby was the 3 speed auto. All that series of Turbos used that gearbox. I'm not being smart, just trying to be helpful. The Touring wagon with the auto is referred to as "the awd wagon" in many posts on many sites. I think that the torque split was 90 front, 10 rear...very unlike the later viscous diffs which were more like 40 front and 60 rear. Do some more research and you'll find that I'm making sense...and my comment about the sunny Sundays was well meant and friendly, unlike the penniless Jim quip! Enjoy your car, but don't sell it short without doing your own research on that awd gearbox! Cheers!

Been following your thread silently up till now, but I wouldn't bother powdercoating the bullbar, it looks great as is. I wasn't sure how it would look at first, but it's really nice. Great clean wagon. Wish there were still some in NZ in that good a condition.
Thanks. :)
