Spare Car City! Leone Sedan

So today we got the spare parts car dropped off at our place that came with my RX. It's an '85 built Leone GL.

"Leonie"
In all her filthy broken glory!

This windscreen I'm stealing to put into my RX for roadworthy since it isn't cracked.

Apparently it was running, but it's been sitting stagnant for 3 years now so we'll see how we go.

The plan is to get her running again, then just frankenstein it and use as a bush basher on our block.
Probably remove the rear brakes and turn the wheels around. Grind out all the wheel arches, cut a big bonnet scoop in it, take out all the interior, weld up a gal pipe roll cage and roar about it her

Keen as a shaved chilli bean!

Don't know how I missed this post of yours!

Looks like that Subi has seen better days.

What a wreck. :|

Keen to see that mad max job on it though. x)

Just chop the whole roof off/remove the doors? :p

The rear shocks and coils may be of use/interest for Vortex owners

Pure filth, all I've done is clean the windscreen so far :p

Stole the A/C buttons from the RHS of the instrument panel for Roxy today too since they're in much better condition.

Having this car for parts has been so unbelievably handy. It was also great for reference when putting the dash back in.

It's dying slowly since I've nicked a fair amount of non-vital but necessary bits for my own car. Don't know how much I'll be able to modify it when I'm done with my car, but in any case it will be frankenstiened anyway :D

Parts bombs are the best. One of the best ones I've had so far was a $90 leone. It's been a real parts bitch

Righto, after a lot of troubleshooting and a bit of swearing, I can't get it going, and I can't figure out the issue.

So, I'm tearing her to pieces :'(

I've taken off the boot and hood and door cards and liners and console and half the dash and all the seats and the windscreen wipers and covers and the carpet from the boot and most of the wiring from the boot back.

So basically I'm pulling it into every piece I can and selling whatever anyone wants and then just letting the wreckers come for the body.

BUT. since tearing up the carpet and most of the trim, I've found that there is actually very little rust in the body. It is really only in the pillars, sunroof cavity and some flaky surface patches in the engine bay. So the plan may be to turn it into a mad max ute at some point anyway :D

Once everything's gone I'll start grinding and such. Can't really hurt anyway since it's being sold for scrap eventually anyway.

Sorry for the essay, pics will come tomorrow :)

Cheers,
Tom.

Looks like it's a good clean away from being a respectable machine... Sure you're going to part it up?

This guy is a psychic.

Went down today to keep stripping her and old mate Subaru mechanic who was helping me with Roxy was there.

We decided to go down and have another go at it.

Vwa-Friggen-La!

Got her running, literally sounds perfect. Can't hear anything wrong with it at all, better than Emma :'(
It appears the issue was the wiring from ignition to starter motor. Bit of fuel in the throat of the carby and just flicked ignition to on and got some contact on something in the engine bay with some wire (don't ask me, he's the mechanic haha) and she fired right up.

I've continued to strip her though.

This is the plan ;)

I don't know how I'll be trying to get engineering sorted :/ so maybe it will just be a paddock basher after all :(

Feeling this I think.

Not the prettiest but practical enough. Might need an old brumby shell for the rear window section.

Decent shopping skills on that picture too

About an hour's work in Corel photopaint 12 and Paint Shop Pro 4.1 (can't beat this version)...

Or this

Too bad she's only a FWD :(

Bugger it, I'm stripping her for parts.

It isn't worth the money to restore it and sell it on.
It isn't worth my time to restore it and have it as a daily, since I already have the RX and the Brumby at my disposal, plus there's no way I'm affording the rego on 2 cars every year by myself.
I've decided it's in too good a condition to wreck and have as a bush basher, would be an absolute shame to violate her like that.

Therefore, I'll be stripping it for parts.

So anyone who needs ANYTHING from a 1985 Leone GL in fantastic mechanical condition, give us a PM.

EA82, carby, FWD, 5 speed manual g'box, sunroof etc.

More pictures available if anyone wants.

Cheers,
Tom.
