Smiled and waved and kept going, was more a test session so I did end up getting Maple bogged on purpose later on down the beach, just to see what would happen, sure enough, reverse back, and kept going again.
Defies logic this car haha.
And pics will be for sure coming, gonna be abit of a trek, but I think it'll be fine, see what she's got on the bigger boys.
At the moment I'm looking at some bigger AT shoes for her, anyone got some suggestions?

Definite permanent bans from the forum if you don't get photos from down there with her!Eatu4t wrote:Wild is an understatement, she's amazing.
Took her out fishing on a local beach down here, absolutely flew past 2 bogged cruisers and a courier.
Camping trip this weekend down to lake Jasper which should be most excellent =D
I love lake Jasper! Amazing place to water-ski - and was the first place I did. Incredible. Being able to see turtles and that in the water when canoeing was so good!
She will be totally fine, we took some totally stock L-Series down there a few years back and they got in and out easily. Just remember to look out for the ruts! We had a few surprises... There's a video out there, I will try find it on my hard-drive!Eatu4t wrote:Smiled and waved and kept going, was more a test session so I did end up getting Maple bogged on purpose later on down the beach, just to see what would happen, sure enough, reverse back, and kept going again.

She's mental. My favourite is the "Good luck!" you get from Landcruiser drivers and Hiluxers, and then they see you later on while they're digging.
I know my favourite offroad tyre is the Dueler AT - just not sure if they make them in a 14" rim size.
So keen to see what you do with this car and keep on with the passion.

LOL.. I love the look on their faces as you go pass
They are truely amazing with the EJ engine in them. They have just the right amount of power and the lack of weight allows them to skip along the top of the sand with ease.
Tyres.. well it's personal choice but I liked the Toyo Open Country tyres and Tristan has the BF Goodies on Hatchie. Both do well on and off road but a little noisey on road and not as good as road tyres on the beach, so really need to work out what you'll be driving on most, or buy yourself 2 sets of tyres.

I havent had this fun experience yet but cant wait. In fact, on my last trip I got bogged in thick mud & as I was trying to get out it kept sliding closer to a 4' deep gully. A Nissan pulled me out snatching off his towball!RSR 555 wrote:LOL.. I love the look on their faces as you go pass

Everyday coming in and out of home there's a small track in front of the estate that was made by locals before me, which means everyday I'm getting my slice of offroad before and after work :3

I spose I'll continue the car off from here.
After owning Maple for almost a week she's surprised me good and bad.
Second time in 2 days she hasn't been able to hold charge in the battery even with a new one in it, alot of clicking coming from the fuse box even when the key is turned to ACC ON.
Can't sleep knowing she is in the drive-way dying D=
Hopefully today or tomorrow can check the charge from the alt or what ever is sucking power while the key is off :3

2 things come to mind when I read this. First one is aftermarket immobilizers.. these things are known for their ability to suck the life ot of any good battery. The second thing I'd check, is the alternator is not getting a feed back. Usually a good auto sparkie can check this for you and fit a diode inline if required.

I'll charge a battery up and limp it down to the sparkies tomorrow as I'm off to Albany tonight =]RSR 555 wrote:2 things come to mind when I read this. The other thing to do, is buy a small trickle charger that you leave on overnight but this isn't fixing the problem, just helping until such time.

I started it this morning fine, started backing down the driveway and the spluttered and died, so I don't think there's any charge being produced.

Hey,
is the dash light coming on with the engine not running? If it isnt make sure its not a blown light.
Not sure how the EJ system works but with old school alternator setups, the alternator has an excite coil which energizes. That coil allows the alternator to start charging. After it starts charging it self excites, so the startup excite coil is no longer needed. If that excite coil isnt coming on when you first start the car, or the voltage its getting supplied is getting pulled low by high current, the alternator wont start charging.
Possibly now with modern cars the alternator excite is driven by the ECU. So without looking at schematics its hard to guess. Double check the brushes first .
Regards
Doug

There is a light which is coming on upon start up but flickers on and off, looks like the hazard light symbol if that's any clue?Subydoug wrote:Hey,

She's got a hell of a imob-flash that's for sure, but that shouldn't be it.RSR 555 wrote:2 things come to mind when I read this. When an Auto-sparky looks under that hood he's going to shake a head. Both from me, and the bloke who put the guts of it all in.
I'd be keen to know what it was, when you find out. The re-conned-starter went in not long ago.
Hope this message finds you with a healthy Maple!
Edit: New posts have been made since I typed all that, good work on tracking down the Alternator, that's a new one!

Alright, so I got elbow deep into yesterday, checked all the connections, re wired some tested the charging system and in the end, alternator had poo'd itself.
Quick trip down to the wreckers, quick spray of contact cleaner and she's running as smooth as butter
Was also a radiator out job which let me learn some more things about how maple works.
