Gidday,

Thought I'd give members an introduction to my Brumby, some of you may know it from the MRT forum I'm also on: http://www.mrtperformance.com.au/forums ... y.php?f=82 I'm also on FB ... :)

This is how it looked as first seen by me ...

History : I have wanted a Brumby for some time & had been searching for ages - found it online in SA. I purchased this 'Sport Ute' in 2007, it was 'Born' in Sept 1985 and it has approx 255,000 Km on the clock + I think the engine has been swapped at some stage. It has a nice set of 'performance' rims, ( I'm looking out for a spare ) & I have also installed an aftermarket alarm system.
With Two previous owners that I'm aware off ( not sure of the exact details ) so would like to find out more ...

Plans : I need to fix quite a few things as age has not been kind to him ( I've call it a 'him' because of the nature of the beast within. ) + I have a few other mods in the pipeline. However due to the current economic climate, nothing looks like being done for quite some time, as I'm in Brisbane & the car is back in Darwin ...

So I will endeavor to keep you guys updated with stuff done as they come to hand ( budget permitting, etc. ) P.S. - I've been lurking around here for some time, just haven’t got round to becoming a member till recently. ;)

Yeah, thanks.

However - don't look too close as the paint job is crap ( who ever re-sprayed it before I got it did a terrible job with crack's appearing everywhere, especially on the bonnet - I think they tried to dry it too fast ) + the usual rust starting to appear, a major job to fix.

This was taken just after it arrived in Darwin ...

I had it transported by Petter Kittle Toyota - Alice Springs of all things ... :)

Any takers / offers to do the necessary work would be considered - aka the 'Backyard boys' ?

As I'm now nearby, might pay them a visit ... :0

Notes : This was taken just after I got it - so still has the old switch gear for fog lights etc. & before I had a chance to weave some mojo into it ... :p

Yeah - thanks guys.

You don't see too many Targa's around these days + it's getting harder to find trim bits for too ! ... :(

P.S - One of the first things I did was put on some spare headlight cover's that I had laying around :

Note: For those observant among you will notice I've removed the chin spoiler + lamps, plan was to put some LED spotlights ...

Note: You may also be able to pick up the 'cracking' in paint on bonnet ...

Ok - time for an update ... ( Thanks in part to a reminder by Toonga's recent post for something that I've done ) showpost.php?p=203395&postcount=643

During my travels ( back in 2007 ? ) I somehow mangaged to hook up on something and did this ...

With a restricted airflow + the resulting odd sound eminating from below, I promtly had the offending bit cut off & replaced ...

Now there's another odd sound comming from it ... :rolleyes:

Hah ... Yes, my thoughts too ... ;-)

For the observant among - you will note that the dizzy & Leads have been installed back to front, I had to remove it & put back correctly ... ( it still ran though odly )

Well after that a new engine was next on my agenda, but the GFC has put a stop to that for now.

But I would like to do some sort of engine upgrade ... Maybe Electric ... :?:

Must of been a 'bad tyre' as it had delaminated ... probably too old too !

Has any one else come accross this ?

run a tyre flat and it can be damaged, pump it back up and no one knows until some time later when things like this may happen. I used to wonder why some tyres had all these varying size balls of rubber inside when striping off rims - comes from running on a flat tyre like above. I've also recently pumped up some old tyres on a gauge that tells lies. Gave me 44psi in tyres made for no more than 35 and 36 psi. Within weeks I had odd vibrations and suspected unijoint or centre bearing and started to remove tailshaft - next thought was tyres. Both on the rear were rooted with slight delam bubbles. Wights and measures need to sort out the dodgy gauge

:shock: ... Yeah that's what I thought of at first, but had been keeping eye on tyre pressures & I'm pretty sure I hadn't run on them flat ... :)

It's probably more just a case of old age I think, as the rubber had hardened due to age - not sure how old they were, but they had been there since I purchased the Ute.

I've also herd that particular brand has had a bad reputation for longivity ... Also you can't get them any more, so that would suggest something to me.

All fixed now though ... :)

Not that I'm aware of - no ... :(

Also thinking about it now that I've replaced them, I can tell you it was making noise / vibrations which were felt through all wheels as they started to 'delaminate'.

Hindsight is a great thing somtimes ... :)

Ute Run ...

Took it for the annual Australia day Ute run in 2008 ...

Rigged up some flags on broom sticks, and stuck 'em in the back which worked a treat ... :)

I also did a couple of laps around the Hidden Valley Track ( not on same day ) - It suffered from brake fade towards end of third lap & found it shuddered a bit on turns with loose suspension ... :(

I don't have any pic's on track, but I'm sure some one has ... ;)

yea my rodeo did that to a set of kumho,s... may have been my fault... bridgestones fixed the problem till they wore out and did the same thing

Heater Controls ...

The heater contols also needed some work to them free up ...

Old one is on the right - it was corroded & not working ... :(

Now back together & all working as it should ... :)

Anyone come accross the dimister button ? as it's not linked to anything on a brumby ...

That button can be handy if you have it for a manual fan relay switch, driving lights, supercharger clutch :D ....must be out of none ute , or I guess if Smiths still sell rear window demister kits......

My Brum has that button too, not sure why they didn't just leave it blank :confused:
