The L Series (Updated)

Well, just finished my latest project (All but the right hand CV joint which is getting done next week).

I have been slowly working on the L Series for a couple of years now and making my own little modifications along the way.

Mods:
* SAAS Bonnet Scoop
* 13" Momo Vega Alloy Wheels
* Boss Steering wheel
* Modified front grille.
* Pioneer Head Unit + 2x DNA 160W Speakers + iPod Dock
* Navman S150 GPS (Mounted under head unit)
* SAAS Gear Boot
* Gen 1 Liberty Gear Knob
* SAAS Pedals
* 3" Tacho
* Immobilizer
* Removed the bullbar that came with it and put the stock bumper on (PM me if anyone wants to buy the bullbar)
* 3" Straight pipe + 5" Canon Muffler

I'm happy with the EA82 engine for now as its running perfectly (just did a 3000km trip round victoria without a hitch).
If the engine ever has any issues I will consider an EJ but its running fine there isn't much point upgrading.

This is a road L Series it will not be used 4WDing. (I am sourcing an old MY Wagon as a dedicated offroader now this one is done) as this one has no dents or rust and is completely straight so I don't want to ruin if offroading.

couple of ideas i might steal for my Lisa.
the scoop and grille for one. is the red stripe custom?? havent seen a L with it before.

i love the idea of P platers driving the older subarus. well any 4wd for that matter cept cops stilll get me lol

* The scoop can be bought from Supercheap for $32.

* The front grill was made with some special garden mesh stuff that was $3 for a roll of 10 metres then just sprayed silver.

* Nope the red stripe is stock.

Yeah I love old subarus.

I am not one of those P platers that wants a WRX STI etc etc. I would take my L over an impreza/forester any day.

As said in the first post I will be buying another one (even older, an early 80's MY Wagon for offroading)

As I tell friends I buy old cars because I love them, not because I can't afford a new one.

Old cars have character....new ones don't

yeah understand that but your brave saying it lol.
i wouldnt mind an STI or forester for the street but i hate the idea of masssive wings and stuff on it id prefer a sleeper anyday. and of course somthing different:mrgreen:
ok im gonna look into the mesh front end probably not the bonnet scoop just yet but maybe later.

whats the guage hard mounted to the dash read??

The guage is a tacho.

Because its a sports wagon it doesn't have one on the dash so I had to buy one. (bought it off ebay and was actually from a member on these forums, thats how I discovered ausubaru)

I am planning on putting the dual guage dash cluster from the touring wagon in but I have to figure out the wiring involved first. :P

I see your in SA, if your in the adelaide area feel free to drop by and you can have my roll as I don't need the rest (saves hunting around the hardware stores as I did because this is the best one, the others don't look as nice)

Yeah, I shift by feel too.

But its always nice to see what your revving at on different roads/conditions etc etc

Such a great looking car! Nice job on the restore!

I just bought an '85 L-series but don't have a manual yet...at the moment I'm just doing a few minor repairs and I'm wondering how to get the front bumper off? Any help would be appreciated!

down on the chassis rails there are two bolts each side on the inside if im not mistaken, one sides easy to undo the other difficult to get at but yeah thats the bumper

Yep, when I pulled the old bullbar off to put the bumper on, there were bolts on the rails that held it in, undo those and you should be right

Looking good Mate, I like your style.

Brings back memories of my L touring wagon (which I miss dearly, and regret thrashing & jumping 'quite' so hard. but u get that)

heres a pic of mine, I had a similar grille, but I just couldnt bring myself to stick on scoop, at least not without cutting a hole.

I made the 'custom' headlights too.
