Good to see a outback getting some offroad action.
I think on that model auto you can put the vtd rear transfer on the box. These make a huge improvemant offroad especally in sand, rear wheel spins no bogging.Vincetvega's loving his ,so am i .And yes a big auto cooler is the way to go .If you can try to install a small fan on the auto cooler that you can switch on when offroading your auto will love you for it.

fark they are big tyres.

I would be looking at a 4.44 diff conversion, VTD rear end and a 4.44 rear LSD

one day the vtd may come. but in all honesty i prefer a dual range manual..so for the moment im gonna lock the centre diff just for that added piece of mind in the sand and when i can afford the gearbox swap ill decide wiether vtd or manual will go in

cheers for the help guys

mate you dont need a whole new box, you can bolt a VTD rear end onto your current box. If your lucky you should be able to find the parts for under a few hundred bucks and the swap can be done with the box in the car.

in the meantime make sure you remember to unlock the center once your through the soft bits. If you forget to unlock it you will fry your center pretty quickly.

Seriously you had to wait 3 weeks for the King Springs? I have been told 2 weeks ago they are in stock for Gen 3.

So far I have enjoyed my auto, but how do you tell if you have a "VTD rear end"? I have a 2001 H6 auto top of the range (leather and sunroofs, and colour coded bumpers and VDC blah blah blah) and just wondering how to tell?

thanks

rob

you should have vtd as from what i;ve read in a factory manual vdc and vtd go hand in hand, but without looking its just a guess. The rear extension housings different on a vtd transfer.I'll see if i can grab some pics to show the differences.
