cool! if you want help with the auto there's a few of us in the know ;) Surely a strong manual box would be better for rally though. what are your plans for the car (useage i mean)

The first thing i did, whilst waiting for the truck to deliver my new baby, (sight unseen mind you) was pull the dash from my Rusty Ute, which is a freak machine BTW, and the reason i bought a subaru, then I ended upwith her too!
anyways i took the dash out and cleaned it, stared (store?) at it for a bit until i got out the drill and stuff and delicatley removed the clock, To fit a CAT Hourmeter. This will be switched, thru the ign. so as to record Race hours on the engine for servicing ect. then i painted it a bit, and stuck a bit of inspiration iside there too. i think it looks tops and is the 'Piece la Resistance' () of the whole car. (at least sofar.)

so i started with the tray, empied out all the crap in it, ripped out the tool box and the cover plates and cut off the shit battery holder thing. then got out the busted old Solly's drill (blew up) and cupbrush. and a few beers of course. and got to it - on the hottest day of summer. good idea. only took a about 2hrs(say 8 beers) it was pretty badly rusting though.
Then went shopping for paint and decided on GALMET Hammertone Silver 1lt ($25). as ive used this inside my datto rallycar and its a tough finish. and also picked up som PENETROL 500Ml ($26). this is magic stuff. made from linseed oil and deisel, by the smell of it it spreads paint right out, and gets right ino seams and holes and rust. i mixed the first coat 50/50% and rollered most of it on. it was a bit transparent though. let it dry (it took about 4 days) then did a 25% penetrol coating. this is where its at now. looking good. i need to get a welde and do a bit of welding/ grinding and filling holes and fixing the welds around Cage so ive saved a bit of paint and will do a top coat later.
any way heres some pics.

Boy oh boy have you got some work to do!

The bolt welded accross the strut top looks as thought it was designed to catch the strut if (when) the rubber breaks.
You don't normally see welding that bad on competition vehicles. I wonder how it passed scruiteneering?
Don't worry too much about that dodgy homemade front lower wishbone. Replace it all with a 5 stud Crossbred kit and you'll be miles in front.
Do you know if the cage is made from seemless tube?
Have you found a number on it at all?
