This is currently what my suby looks like, half way through a gearbox swap. I don't think I'll be doing this again with in a constrained time frame, its becoming frustrating rather than enjoyable.

A few months ago some one side swiped my suby when it was parked (and then parked next to me, like nothing had happened!). After getting a quote for the fix I was very surprised at the cost to fix such a minor bump. In fact it was easily enough to fix and paint the whole car, so I (as in my panel beater mate) did. Got the money out of the insurance company instead of getting them to fix it. Also the car was looking pretty poor from other bingles and scratches, so just a good chance to fix most of it up.

Car stripped down and prep'd for painting inside boot and doors. Parking incident damage fixed.

Few more pics to come once I upload them. Also whole car had just finished being painted this weekend. But had poor weather this weekend so no chance yet to take pics out in the sun.

I remember I saw (and rode in) this car not long after the damage. I'll have to see it again when I next come over!

Yep, you're going to have to post more pictures Thomas.

Yes, yes you do… and with this kinda work they are going to be around for a while to come as well
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

The base colour is a Subaru Dark Micra Green. Then 1 coat (becuase we ran out:( ) of gold zerelic or zyrelic or zeralic or somthing like that, supposed to be like a pearl but not, just did it becuase me mate had some left over and we decided what the hell for a bit of fun. Then clear coat.

It cost me nothing in labour because I did the menial work and a mate did all the work requiring skill. Still its cost me about $500-600 so far in products (primer, paint, clear, sandpaper, booth hire, etc...).

To get a whole car sorted out and painted professionally could be easy 3-5 grand, with removal of engine and wot not to paint properly.

If you want to do it on the cheap, people have done it with just spray cans with good results considering they used spray cans. Just prep the car really well and the finished product won't be to bad, e.g.

Final preperations on the car, sanding, cleaning etc. Before taking it to the booth.
Image
Touch up of areas that where sanded to bare metal or thin areas. Then more sanding/cleaning of that. At some giddy early hour of the morning we were discussing how 'cool' it would be to add a few more splotches of colour and leave it like this, just clear coat it:rolleyes: . I am glad we did not.........

Mostly painted in the booth, just a couple of clear coats and she's done.

I'll try take some pics of her today out in the sun. There is still a fair bit to do with putting all the plastic spats and trims back on, mud flaps, windscreen trim, and then cut and buff the car. I hope I don't mind getting it dirty after all this.
