ok so i've decided that i really want to put Nankang supers 27's on the L series, will this affect the performance of my car in terms of gear ratios, decreasing the life of the cv joints and putting more strain on other drivetrain and engine components. id really like to put 27"s on the Subaru as it would make the car an absolute beast but im just worried i may be decreasing the life of the cars parts by trying to make it look good and go hard offroad.

Going hard offroad = decreasing life of parts.
In terms of your CV's they should be fine so long as you've got the suspension lift the same as the body lift (eg 3 inch all round as opposed to 2 inch body lift 3 inch suspension lift).
Gearing will change - L will be s
Luggish off the mark cos its trying to turn a larger diametre tyre (covering more distance with the same amount of rotations).
Hope this is of some help.
Cheers

hehe an EA82 carby with 4 inch lift and 27's is wt i drove once for liek 150 ks to 'Lancelin'.
basically a flat foot in 5th all the way dropping it to fourth on the 'very long overtakes'
ud have it flat in 5th and u wuldnt really climb much speed on the downwards and any that u did wuld come back off when going up a hill. some hills even changing to fourth again LOL.
was an interesting drive compared to wt an EJ or EA82-T wuld do on the same trip lol
but it did use the least fuel by a fair bit in the end.
and it goes GREAT offroad.

i kinda been thinking the same thing, especially highway driving with 27's, how much of a drop in rpm would i get from my brumby (4speed)? at 100km/h now it revs at pretty much 3000rpm, will i notice a significant difference with 27's?

You will notice a "significant difference" changing from 23" to 27" tyres. It's a 17% taller tyre.
This has been done many many many many times before by those of us that wanted to and it comes down to this:
If you want the 27" tyres you will put up with the reduction in performance.
There are always options to regain or improve the driveability. Either with gearing or more power.

Yes you will loose a bit of power but!!!
The difference off road in amazing you will have plenty of clearance and they have awesome grip in dirt or mud and the car looks the part:D
