G'day, have you found a good tyre for sand??, as I know there is a lot of it in WA, used to live there just bouight a L series 2" lift 14" wheels 1.8rs turbo, cheers

I've found a nice wide (215) standard road tyre deflated to 15psi is very good in the sand. I have spent heaps of time in the dunes around WA and rarely got stuck.

Decided to split the topic from Vidler's wagon thread, hope it works ok.

I've found the best sand tires are the less agressive and wider variety, ie choose All-Terrains over Mud-Terrains. Also go with width over height, but remember that some height is necessary so you don't drag your diffs and sump through the sand.

Also - The taller the tyre, the less rolling resistance there is on it.

27's are the go (provided you car can handle it)

I believe that a longer footprint can work better than a wide one in the sand , as Smoov said , lees rolling resistance.

Even on my Mountain Bike if I let the tyres down to 5 psi I can ride on the soft sand.

For sure, dead right, although you're not really going to be buying 28x750R15s are you.

AndrewT. would they be 215/70/14 or 215/75/14 ?? I am still trying to get some second hand,

I did not know if 215's would scrape on speedies with a 2" lift.

I believe a wide tall footprint to be the best. As tall as possible and wide as well.
