Fender Trimming for 26"/27" tyres [MELB]

Just wondering if anyone in Melbourne has trimmed their fenders and is able to help me with mine?

I've just put a 2" lift in and I'll probably be going for 26" tyres but understand there's a small amount of modding needed.

If anyone is able to do a neat job (read: not very noticable) on the fenders I'm happy to pay you for your time and effort.

PM me or reply here.

can't do it for you, but here is some guidelines...
1) take a look at Phizinza's site http://webmaster.beverleypaine.com/fenders.html

that gave me some good ideas.
2) I like to play with cardboard and scissors before doing any metal sheet work so much easier  and I can see the result i'm trying to achieve

Those curvy snakes left over from schools days are handy

cut the new curve
I wanted to be sure that the lip over will be right for re-attaching the flares

so now with the real fender

This kind of helped too, thanks Alex

The cutting I did was with good aviation snips.

However my end result was not what I wanted........

the tyres tried there is dunlop adventurer 195/14 LT , maybe <50% thread, measured 25.3in dia.
Its very close to the fender still, and on turn hits into the that location with the screw holding the mudflap and inner gard cover or whatever you call it.
So not happy
Its a 2" lift, King Springs, Gabriel struts, would KYB struts help ?[/img]

so bugger, how are you guys fittiing 27"/s6" in tyres ? I thought i'd do this fender bending before going back to the tyre place to convince him it could be done, now I'm not convinced

fred -

you need to persuade that area with a BFH. There is a folded area there where two parts of the car are folded together. I grinded some of it off, and bashed up the rest.

I did persuade a bit. but the bracket to hold that screw is still there...so obviously that must go? I'll have another go next weekend.

As for actually grinding into/off the corner...hmm a bit apprehensive about that...I'm sure that is an impact/crush zone area, to severly weaken it?...just not so sure I want to do that

You have a 3" lift Alex, so that makes a huge difference, you probably did not need to do so much....
so if I got trouble now with 25.3", for 27", lets say another 1" clearance..i'm still miles off

i'll go and take some pics of the carcass after work tomorrow. sure the three inch kit works towards my advantage, but i did still get a little scrub with lock-to-lock turning.

how big was your persuader??

I am running 27" Nankangs on 14" Scorpions and 2" lift. I was advised that good stiff radius rod bushes can minimise some af this scrubbing of the tyres. I did though still have to remove my front mudflaps, and still suffer some scrubbing particularly on tight lock and at speed thru a dip in the road. You can wind up the front suspension a little which can help.

Further to the discussion on cutting you front guards, the Brumby is into the Panel Shop for a full respray, minor panel work, some of which is the cutting fo the front guards. They (Panel beaters) have advised me that their approach is to draw a shapely line, cut it (a wedge out) then reweld retaining the folded edge of the guard, prime and paint. The job is expected to be professionally done and will require the removal of the guards.
