good alternative to Nankang Super trippers?

just wondering what a good alternative to these is for around the same price. I already have nankangs fitted but find they pick up a fair amount of crap (nails etc) because they are pretty soft. Can't justify cost of BFG's or Coopers and TG wranglers look a little sketchy for the on road stuff.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

There is nothing as good as Nankanangs for the price. If u want to pay more u can go for Toyos or i recomend BFGs.... but your pretty stuck trying to get a better product for the same price.

I suggest... save more money.

As already said there is really nothing to compare with the Nankangs for the price.

Khumos. I used them for years. They are a little dearer but not much. Subarute just put a set on his Brumby and I think they cost around $125 each.

i can get nankangs for about the $100 mark, and for that price, you COULD NOT GET ANYTHING BETTER. In saying that, the nankangs aren't a bad tyre... they are really very good.

brett - what are the khumos like for wear? how have you found them in comparison the the 'kangs?

Great tyres. I got a set. Works wonders. Look awesome too. Cos of being so hard compound they make it a little fun onroad in weather....... But I've gone over 2000km on the now and only 1.5mm to 2mm wear on the fronts and .5mm to 1mm wear on the back, and I've spun the fronts a couple of times on the pavement. I think they come with more then 18mm tread depth. But they are only rated at 120kmph, so dont think you can speed safely with them :? .They cost me $175 each fitted at a local shop. $125 sounds unbelivable for those tyres, if you can get them for that price, GET THEM!

We did a Simpson Desert trip via Innamincka with Khumos on a Jackaroo and they held out very well on the sharp rocks. I think they lasted 80,000kms. They are very slipery in the wet!!

first of all.....Fatz.....what are these - Goodyear Adventures 26" tho, 8.5 r14 - because i can't find them on the net. Thought you might have meant dunlops but they don't show up on either web-site

also, Smoov.......$100- for nankangs seems pretty cheap considering I can't find anyone in Brissie who does them less than 125-. Is that a special price for you only or do i just need to phone around a little more.

cheers

bit of A, bit of B

fitted, the guy wanted $110. i paid that first time for the first set. when i came back and bargained for the second set, I yacked on about being a good customer, and he let them go for $400 for four.

interesting chap, interesting shop. nothing fancy or ritsy. a mate of mine suggested seeing him, as he tends to stock 'rare' tyres... as they supplied him 13 inch whitewalls to his original '72 celica....

anyways, first time I went there, I told him that I could stump him...and asked about 14 inch 4WD tyres.... he told me to wait, and dissapeared into his warehouse, returning 5 minutes later with a nankang, asking me "will this be ok?"

perhaps its cheaper coz im in sydney, and it has reduced freighting costs... i dunno..

will definately go back to him soon, as im keen to try a set of khumos for the next lot of tyres.

thats a good price...bit of bargaining power doesn't go astray....found a guy in brisbane will do nankang for $115 but he also suggested i might look at the hankook w401 as well. It's a winter tread and is only 26" (185R14) but thinking i might give them a go to try to get back a little of my lost power. car is going to be fully loaded up for a month long trip to tassie and i think it might struggle ti get up any hills let alone in 5th

shop guy says will do hankook for $128 fitted....just means i'll have to buy 5 instead of 4 and keep nankangs for beach spares

cheers for answers everyone

have you got pics of these hankooks?

$125 would be the ultimate goal for the khumos? thanks for sharing that :D

like you said mango, bargaining power :D

hankooks are here

http://www.hankooktyre.com.au/V2/produc ... cr&id=1153

not as aggressive as other patterns but to be honest i need it more for road use than mud and rocks. i'm not sure yet whether the studs come standard.........might be useful for clearing people off the beach ;)

Hey they make 13 inch tyres too

Correct my if I'm wrong but isn't 175R13 (ie: wall hirght is 100% of width) a 27" tyre?

Which means you can have 27" tyre on standard rims with standard offset.
