You can get 14x6" speedy desert rats, or the king wheels rip off for about $50-70 per rim. These stick past the gaurds and need flares if you want to be legal. You can get flares by length from clark rubber. Old peugeots have the same stud pattern but pretty sure most of those also need flares, bonus is you can get 15". I bought a set of 5 15" peugeot 505 GTI rims for $500. I could enquire about another set if you were interested.

G'day Vallyboy, welcome to ausubaru! So much to do on the L!
If you're after a stock sized tyre for offroading I'm running a hancook winter tread for the snow. I'm about to get the next two tyres to complete the set of 4 - the other two were the good old toyo mud and snow I think they were, unfortunately no longer made.
As for the lift etc, I would focus on getting it on the road first, then start playing

That's what I've done over the time I've had Ruby Scoo - she's come a long way from her RWC and touch wood I'm not having to do another one!
Cheers

Hi and Welcome Vallyboy
If you want to stick to 13"s. we put a great set of 185/80R13 on Glen's L and they look good and because of the higher than standard sidewalls, they work great on the beach and they sit inside the guards

check out this thread...

14" rims are good but you'll need to find some like El freddo's if you don't wont too many hassles but these are very rare but are sexy az
15" are harder to come by and you'll definately need a lift kit to fit them. Not sure who does the kits in Vic??

No one in Vic makes lift kits that i know of, they do come up second hand or from the wreckers if you're lucky. I'm sure any 4X4 fabricator could make one for you, but probably not cheap. The other option is getting a Crossbred lift kit and having it posted from Qld.

thanks for all your help guys . my plan is to get it r/w n reg b4 i do too much . so my 1st goal is to get tires then all the other stuff will follow. thinking the 13s will have to stay atm . so 185/80R13 will fit under it with out a lift ?

Hey mate,
If interested, we have both , Lift and 14's if you wish to pay the freight and put a couple of dollars towards the items. Wont be much. If i remember right, you can fit 14's with out a lift kit. Just have to put something like a 185/60/14 tire on and it shouldnt rub. If it does. it very little on full lock only.

VB there should already be a factory sump guard on your L series, if its not there its been misplaced along the way. PAP in campbellfield will most likely have an L series there with a factory guard/bash plate.
Other protection is probably a good idea. I've been meaning to make a guard for my fuel tank as this is the second one I've dinged up

14s are the go - they look good, wheels are available new and cheap, and there's a good range of tyres available.
185R14s (about 25.5" overall) will fit without rubbing without a lift. 27x8.50R14s will fit without a lift but will rub slightly.
Dane.

These tyres look like the same sort of tread that the old wild coyote super trippers had. I've just had a set out in the sandy/loamy soils of the cobaw forest and they went very well. They have a light hum on the road at speed but nothing in your face. If these tyres are anything like the coyotes they'll be good offroad!
I'll be headed back up to hotham on the 21st of may and can probably drop the rims off to you if this helps as I'll be headed up the hume (fun fun). I didn't mention that it was rims only - are you happy with this as they'll just sit in the shed until I get home to sell them on ebay.
Cheers
