Well as some of you know Vidler and I designed and built a spare wheel holder on the back of the hatch that folds down to be used as a Camping table....
Well i saw this at a local BCF that is perfect to have off the back of the car for shade and it is also water proof. The front of it also unzips all the way up.
Only cost about $60. Should be good for the up and coming camping season.

It's meant for exactly that.
No takes about 5 mins tops to set up and pack up... Basically like setting up a quarter of a tent... same sort design.

Looks good - This was offered as an option on late Toranas (LH or LX, dont remember which) - a small tent coming from the batck hatch. Good effort!

Dave, Thats a such a great find, I went and bought one today!

:D:D
Ran out of time tonight to put it up and see what its like, but the one set up in store gave me the idea.....
It is attached by large suction caps, so it doesnt limit its use purely to end of vehicle use, even over a side door etc. Going to give mine some use this weekend at a bike event, may need some shelter if its wet to fill up or have lunch under.
BUT I did the usual gander around BCF like the blokes in the ad on TV, and left also with a new 3 man dome tent for $50 and better than the old pole type I have, and a foam bed mat. The Roman Moon mats were a little bit pricey. They have lot stuff to spend money on!

Good point Subanator... i didn't think about setting it up on the side of the car... but i did think about how convenient it is to set up at the front of the car. Be good for when working under the engine bay for a long period of time... either in the sun for shade or shelter from the rain.
I have found that it does tend to catch the wind though... so in windy conditions your better off not setting it up.

Used the Hatch tent this last w/e, set up was quiet ok and served its purpose well. I used it side on, as I wanted to lock the car and close the hatch door. It was missing one of the side guy ropes when I got it out the bag, have to go back to the store to get another one now. Got a few looks and comments, probably now see a few more at the bike club events!
Dave, you are right with the wind aspect, a bit of a wind sock, and noted the attachment with the suction caps have open hooks, really needs some sort of loop retainer or hook close like a snap back clip ?? I ended up looping the elastic back looping under the hook, just in case a wind gust took it.

Whoa! thats an intense tent/structure on the Torana. so why out of all the cars did the Torana get the tent?
