I didn't see it mentioned, but I had a puncture on Sunday while we were driving to Murrayville on the sand track.

As luck would have it, it was a side wall puncture to my front left Yokohama A/T-S... When I saw it I pretty much knew I'd have to replace the tyre. :(

I wonder if anyone has any shots of the tyre or us changing it?? Phiz & Subaruby, I'm looking at you...

Anyways, back in Melbourne I took the tyre to the tyre shop, as you do. The second blow (pun intended) comes when the guy gets off the phone to Yokohama and tells me there are NONE left in Australia in my size.

The trifecta was 2 seconds later, when he informed me the factory ain't making them for the next 3 months!! double-

At least a reasonable outcome was achieved: I'll get myself 5 new tyres (H/T-S) for the price of 1 A/T-S. Pick them up on Wednesday.

Then, it's off to chasing a set of 5x 16in rims and BFGs A/T tyres!!

Cheers,
Pedro.

Well another good trip with a good bunch of guys.

Thanks El_freddo as always a great trip report, wish I could have made it to Robe.

Thanks to all those who attended and to Dulagarl for being our tour guide. A lot of good knowledge on the area was shared and added to the trip.

When he finishes writing his book, I would highly recommend buying it! :D

Just wanted to add a few of my pics and comments.

I headed toward Lake Hindmarsh on the Friday morning and as I came into Ballarat the phone rang with a call for Venom. As has been said I stopped of a Venoms place to get some rear struts.
it is really great to see that mateship and willingness to help out without a question asked, the job was just done.
I think I can speak for everyone when saying it is never a problem to help someone out.

A shot of the camp in the morning, we did get a little wet but most of the dark cloud went around us.

Image

From our campsite we headed to lake Abacutya via various trackes and (dry) creek crossings.

Our first obstacle for the day, we easily navigated around this one.

Image

A shot of us driving across lake Albacutya, shot taken from Subaruby with Bcoutback in front of me with Dulagarl way out in front, you just be able to make out his cloud of dust.

One of the little stops we made along the way, the cliff climb

The amazing Black Box tree, in a Desert area where most of the vegetation is small and low growing the sight of the Blackbox and Redgum was amazing.

Image

And Finally a view across our last stop Pine Plains

Image

A very interesting area where I would like to visit again and spend more time.

Ended up back in Ballarat at about 2am with the petrol tank on empty and me starting to worry that no petrol stations would be open. Found one, then headed back to Geelong getting home at about 3am in the morning.

Good times

Thanks again.

Of course, my mind failed me but never too late: Thanks Subaruby, El_Freddo and Dulagarl for organising the trips and sharing your local knowledge with us!!

It's certainly a pleasure coming out for a trip every time!

Cheers,
Pedro.

It's great to see photos from others too! Load up more if you've got them - I say you can't have too many pics!!

Sorry Pedro, I forgot about your flat in the sand (number 2), I was tailing Greg after knocking that little screw on the mud flap that was giving me grief, after that I could bounce over anything I came across ok so long as I didn't get airborne or hit it so hard that it made me uncomfortable, plus having greg in front gave me an indicator as to wether I should take that section slower etc.

Good times!

Cheers

^ Ah yes, this was when we were cruising along and Ruby Scoo just bogged down and lost power, I don't know if the fuel got too hot or something but the little bit of time it took me to get out and poke around was enough to power on once again. Strange :???: I've also wondered if something hit the immobiliser button and it started to shut off important things to make the engine run... If so it's the first time it's happened!

Totally mate, you should have been there, plenty of sand to carve up! Will you be attending the upcoming lerderderg trip? If you are take it easy on those corners, we'll break that bad luck rather than your subi ;)

haha. i hate the slow cumbersome wheel nut tool that comes standard so i got mine :D

Yes it does come in different colours....blue, green, purple & silver. they were out of blue, green was bit funny so i got purple. Besides, the colour purple has magical properties

It would have been nice if it did, wouldn't it?

Tyre update: 5 H/T-S tyres going in on Wednesday arvo (will have these on for Lerderderg) and already got 4 steel rims on 16in to get my BFGs!! But won't have these on time, oh well...

I'll get a couple videos uploaded tomorrow!

Pedro.
