Good idea, but not long term. My L EA82 appears to have a vent hole in the cap to allow for heat expansion and moisture expulsion.

i also though about using a old tin can as sheild when i had mine but never worried about it!, trick when going through water with an L is to go slow so the water doesnt splash back to the dizzy!!

cool video. doesnt matter how high your snorkel is, keep the speed down and always take the shallow option

Go slow and try to avoid the bow wave coming over the bonnet. Get a bonnet bra or strap a tarp to the front before you go through.
3:30 to 3:50 best part of the video.

When I went to cape york (over 1m deep water) I went to great lengths to waterproof the motor.
Rubber glove works well as suggested. I also sealed down the cap with a little silicone and use marine grease on the electrical connectors to keep the water out (including under lead caps).
A switch to turn off the thermo fans is a good idea if you plan to do this often.

My thoughts too! You've already got the snorkel...
Cheers
