Cat-Back quotes

I'm sure this has been brought up many times before...
But I need advice for a new exhasut as mine has many holes from carting bushrocks down fire trails.
I have a 1993 L-series EA82 wagon
Today I was quoted approx. $300 for a cat-back, I don't know if it's just me being stingy, but this seems at least $100 too much.
Can someone please tell me if this is right, or should I start shopping around. Shopping around is kind of a last resort because the mechanic that I take my old girl to is really good and honest and everyone else is kind of dodgy.
Cheers,
Ben

thanks for the quick replies
that was quoted for 2" pipe, labour and the rear muffler as I can supply the hot dog.
from your replies, 300 sounds way too much

it depends where you are too, city prices are usually cheaper because naturally there is more competition

I just had a 2 and 1/2" cat-less system fitted from the turbo back for $350 in aluminized steel. Considering a cat-back system doesn't require that much bending your quote seems a bit on the rich side, unless it was a quote for stainless...

Problem is the guy that told me the price is the owner and when I tried to hint that it was at least $60 too much he just kept saying $300:(.
Thanks heaps for your help guys, luckily I still have till next april to shop around before I have to get it done for rego.

Well I got the exhaust done yesterday. It ended up costing me $290 for 2 1/4" and a berklee PEX.
I rang 8 shops in the ACT for quotes and not one was under 300 so that was a bit surprising... I don't know how you guys got work done so cheaply!!!???!!!
The place I went to were the people I trust and all the work is covered under warranty. The other dodgy place in town quoted $200 for 2" and a "universal muffler".
Thanks for all your help anyway guys. It sounds awesome and the quality of work is very high.
