That's the spirit :)

I'd take a couple of sets if you decide to make EJ ones ;)

Nice mate.

For those that have to run a cat converter it'd be good if you could incorporate a generic cat unit into the system roughly where the old one is placed. Then it should be a straight bolt in system for those that need a cat converter there.

Not having one on a vehicle that should is a big fine if you're busted...

Cheers

I guess the jury has come to a decision, pipe bender shall be bought. I think I'll stick to the simplicity of the EA for starters before moving on to EJ's. Cats on the EA82 are part of the header so it would make it pricier to make unless, like you say use a readily available generic cat with flanges either side that'll bolt straight up.

DAWN is a good old Aussie brand is it not?

Won't a heavy duty pipe bender crush exhaust pipe? Or filler with sand first !

I have an old Aussie Dawn Vice.
You do get a bit of crush, if you want mandrel type bends you do fill the pipe with sand first and then weld caps to the end before pressing.

Yeah I'm talking about a single inlet cat like you find on every other vehicle! Use one that's really common and easy to get ;)

At Subinats today and a nice supercharged Forester started up his engine with the bonnet up and started giving it a few revs for the crowd, I decided to start my EA81 in the 77 two door and do the same but with the bonnet down, had few people come over saying Wow you have EJ in there!? They didn't believe it was a n/a EA81 until I opened the bonnet LOL :-)

I think the accusation was
" that's not a push rod 1600 in there "

Fuji me dear readers.... this did not sound anything like 'just' an EJ once above about 1500 rpm - close your eyes and hear an early WRX parrrping along - flippin' awesome mod.

Hearing and seeing was believing !! Nearly giggled self to lightheaded excitement when i heard it.

Mister Fisya is taking orders ....

Interesting character that one........

I'm interseted to hear what the short stroke 1600 will sound like with UEL headers in my 1600 coupe, when I had the same muffler and stock headers on the 1600 it sounded like a 2 stroke Detroit diesl LOL.

I've also been trying to figure out how to do UEL headers on the 1400 coupe with the duel port exhausts...........

You trying to figure out...I been trying to figure out how you got 100kph in 2nd gear of a L Series 5 speed behind that EA81...whatever combo, EA81 or 82 , 4 speed or 5, I can still only manage a fanging 80 , a true 80 kph in second. Now, i spied 185.75? 13's . they'll tell lies at the speedo end ......

Speedo is pretty much spot on. It's actually a MY GLF 5 speed box, not sure if ratios are different. I'm curios what the revs are as I don't have a tachometer but, its absolutely reving it's tits off, my dad was shaking his head on the way down to Subinats every time I did it LOL.

And come to think of it, with the bigger tyres it would be actually be going faster than the speedo reading.......

yeah, just recalled my own experience 205.60.13 instead of 165.78.13, gave me 10% false sense of security :(

I keep thinking every Sube has a tailshaft, slap me if I go looking for another under your fleet :p

Crikey! 100 in 2nd! Pretty sure the latest model wrx can't even pull that off. Thinking about it my ea81 would have to be revving at around 6.5-7k.

That pipe looks sweet mate. People tell me mine sounds like a tractor .

Regards

Doug

100 in 2nd eh, quite a feat ;) With the Weber and upsized exhaust my ute can only just get to 80 in 2nd before I lose my nerve :p
