Hi all,

Firstly apologies for being absent on here for quite a while. I've just relocated state, changed job and 100 other things which are only just beginning to settle down.

I have an EA81 twin port engine in the final stages of rebuild, and my attention is now turned towards the fact that I have no Y-pipe for it to match the larger diameter outlet in the heads. Does anybody that has/has had one of these engines have any tips for finding or fabricating one?

I have an existing 2.5 inch exhaust system behind my standard EA81, this should be ample for the higher performance engine, correct?

Haven't had experience with the twin port, but I have a 2.5" on my stock EA81 as well and it goes well. And my EJ22 RX Turbo has a 2.5" (I think) and it goes fine as well.

As far as fabrication goes, do you have headers? or is it just stock exhaust with no extractors?

I think L series headers are what you are after

The headers will need to be custom made as this is what I had to get done when I finally got my engine in all those years ago.

I have a factory twin port Y pipe although battered (only keeping it for a template) these should be the measurements you need. The only important part really is the two flanges that bolt up to the heads, everything else can be made to fit your car. The main hole in the middle isn't round, it's ovalled (see pic) and the large flange where the two pipes join together is 2.5" diameter, should fit your system nicely.

I'll check dimensions from the pics supplied.

2.5 inch will be more than ample although the note will be different, from cam compression etc.

Oops should have said the distance between centres on the 2 stud holes is a bit wishy washy, the holes in mine weren't exactly round so it was hard to get an accurate measurement (somewhere around 85-87mm)

I have 2.25" on mine and i love it, straight through pipes and mandrel bends, (One straight through muffler). It flows very nice, but it is apparently loud behind it, (don't know never been behind it). It is the exact size you need for the heads, but 2.5 " will do well. but i would put a hotdog or resonator in it, to quieten it down a bit..... But been the Brumby the tray stops most of it lol
