EA81 exhaust

Post by openflame06 » Wed May 12, 2010 1:06 pm

My brumby i just purchased the exhaust coming from the engine had a huge hole in it so I have disposed of it, the rear of the exhaust is all brand new.

I am just wondering if there is any point getting anything other then the standard exhaust (part that comes off the engine) or is it a waste of time?

Only real benefit I got on my Brumby exhaust was sports 2" from the back of this Y pipe, stopped its choofing when cold and cjhoked. Some say fit EA82 Y pipe as it is bigger.

I have spent around $4000 on my L Series since I got it 3 years ago and have done everything except the engine.

The EA is still running strong and over 3 years has not given me any problems (done lots of interstate trips too)

I have no plan to replace it unless I can find one of the rare carbed EJ engines. (not a fan of fuel injection, wiring & computers)

mate dont start me on spending on a l-series. I spent inexcess of 10 on L with ease(i lost track)

ea motors dont have enuf power if youre serious about your car. That is all

Alex, I have a soft spot for the EA81, while they are underpowered for their application, they are a simple, effective and reliable engine. The EA82 went wrong with poor head design (short cut from the EA81 head design) and the weak cam belt.

Someguy, Alex isn't trying to be rude nor meaning to be rude, just that he knows what it is like to spend money on getting the best performance from an EA82 only to end up dropping in an EJ22 that really makes the L series a pleasure to drive. The EJ upgrade is the best bang for your buck you can get in the performance world of the L series...

Waiting for an EJ with carbie will be a while. The EFI system is pretty basic yet gets the job done well. I realise you may not want to move away from the carbie system but to learn about the EFI system is pretty easy and it is basically self tuning... The EFI system would be the best way to go with an EJ application...

Anyway, to the EA81 exhaust, I take it we're talking about the Y pipe. Two options: 1: replace with a second hand unit or 2: have one made up - costs more but you can have it made the way you want it to be.

Cheers

someone who did an EJ conversion mentioned again in last ten days they have twin carbs for EA81 with motor, find them, buy them, overhaul carbs and you will not regret the power increase. All EA81's shoulda had them. Loved mine on petrol, theynow just breathe LPG vapours freely :)
