EJ22 noisy factory headers,.. Why?

Post by Gannon » Mon Jan 05, 2009 9:12 pm

My brother just bought a 90 GX Liberty wagon. Its got over 300,000kms on it bout is in really good condition.

The only problem is it sounds like there is an exhaust leak from the factory headers. So we pulled off all the heat shields and couldn't find a leak.

I have heard a few other libs that sound the same,.. what causes this?

Thanks

From what I've noticed my previous liberty had a hairline crack, only opens up when its hot on the exhaust manifold, just not far off from the engine in "J" piece.

We took all the heatshields off hoping to find a crack beneath and thought we would find traces of soot.

Might be an excuse to buy some headers off eBay

its probably the flex joint between the ehaders and rear section leaking. lots of them leak there. I have tried sealant on mine but I think I am going to have to relpace the joint with new. The exhaust has had a lot of hits offroad though.
