Hey,
I have a question that I'm sure some of you will think is crazy (some might not) but I'd like your opinions anyway.
My brother owns a very nicely done up honda accord with insane suspension set-up. Handles like a bat out of hell on tracks. He's also got a few mates with similar set-ups.
Now there is a trend in this particular car-enthusiast community to take out the power steering, reasons being more power and a more "direct" steering feel.

I'm considering doing this to my EJ20'd L series, my reasoning being that I never had a problem with my old brumby not having it and any extra power would be nice.

So, like I said at the beginning, just after your opinions.
Maybe people can compare power-steering to not in relation to 4wding?

ewwww....id rather have the comfort and ease of power steering, rather than some rice boy myth(no offence)

i really cant see it making THAT much difference.

power difference is negligible. nothing like running with aircon on.

if u wanna try it out for awhile. put a belt on just to run the alternator. then go see how u (wont) like it.

Alex, I thought you were the rice boy in this 4wd'n community???

With the EJ I'm sure you won't notice the difference in power with the power steering removed, but will notice the difference in difficulty when steering...

a mate of mine has done this on his race RX7. what they have said is correct about the feel, however the low speed manuverability suffers alot. (ie parking). I would think this would not be something you'd want in an off-road car.

I guess that's the other thing I should have mentioned. I now have a set of daily driver wheels, ie. 13" with road tyres.
Partly because it's faster, handles better and is better fuel economy with the little wheels, and partly because I can't afford to be replacing BF goodrich mud terrains any more often than I have to.

So my thought is that it would be fine for everyday use with no power steering but Point makes a good point (excuse the terrible pun ) about the manuverability at slow speeds offroad.

Lurve the power steer on tha impreza,
but wouldn't want it on the Brumby,
prefer the feel, and if you call Brumby steering heavy, your either medically unfit,
or a big girl!
